I eat lunch at school every other day. One day I go home, the next I bring my own lunch. It works out pretty well for me. I looked at a BMI chart and the shortest height on it was 5 feet tall. If at 5" and 140 lbs you're only considered overweight, so minus a few inches and I think it'll be the same for your friend. Not obese just overweight. It's honorable and kind of you to want to help your friend. But in the end the only person who can change her is herself. You can't force her to lose weight or change her lifestyle only she can do that. You could talk to her and tell her of your concerns and let her know you are there for her and are willing to help her - but you can't change her. The desire to lose weight must come from within yourself, outside forces do not help. Let her know your worried but let her make her own decisions - it's her body, her health. Not yours. Be a positive example by eating well and exercising and maybe you'll influence her for good!

Ht. 5'4", Start: 197 lb, Today: 192 lb (BMI %tile: 98), Goal: 130 lb - Doesn't it suck to be overweight? I feel so self contious when i am trying on clothes. This year it was so hard for me to find clothes that i felt bad about myself especially because i have been trying to lose weight. I do situps everyday and go for a walk and i've only lost 5 pounds in 3 weeks. I have been chubby since like the third grade and i hate it. Especially because i'm trying to lose weight but its not working. My friends and I are always joking about my weight. It doesn't really bug me all of the time but sometimes when i'm feeling really bad about myself i find it really annoying. Also, I just gotta say, don't you just hate it when skinny people say that they're fat? I do! it drives me crazy. My best friend thinks she's chubby when she can shop pretty much anywhere just as long as she likes what is there. She's like 90 pounds. It frusterates me when she says she's fat.<"span class="bbBold">Living life at 192 pounds is really hard. Especially when it comes to exercising and p.e. I hate running in P.e because i know i need the exercise but that doesn't mean i want everyone to stare at me while i run the mile. I just feel so guilty sometimes after i eat something really sugary because i love food, i just hate being overweight. You know what i mean?P.s i am the same person that posted something before i just needed to fix how much i weigh cuz i weighed myself.

Hey Jessica! You where saying that you hate it when your best friend says she fat. Hae you ever told her you what to lost weight? If she is your best friend she would understand and ease up on comments like that. I had the same problem to all my girl friends are super skinny and was always sayiing they were fat when they are barely over 100lbs. After I told them how I felt about my weight and what I was trying to do. They really don't speak like that anymore infront of me. Hope that helps. If you just want to vent out at all let me know and I'll give you my email adress. =) <3 Ricky P.s. I am a girl if you can't tell by my name. =)

If your friend is really short, then that may be a healthy weight for HER, if she's about your height or taller, it's not. And it shouldn't be about being SKINNY it should be about being healthy. You seem to want this for all the wrong reasons. It shouldn't be because you wanna be stick-thin like your friend, or you want boys to like you (at eleven it shouldn't matter that much anyway, you have PLENTY of time to date, don't grow up too fast, because you can't go back). Make this about you, and being healthy. Also, being heavy doesn't make a person a loser. If people are going to pick on you, they most likely will whether you're heavy or not, they will find a flaw and they will pick at that. You just have to learn to toughen up, it's hard, but it's survivable.

Is it really worth quitting because of what everyone else thinks. If your friends are laughing about it, than they're not good friends. And this isn't about THEM it's about you. So keep your chin up, and keep working hard. This isn't for them. It's for you. And you deserve to do this for yourself.

hey guys, i have a question, just don't think that i'm crazy or anything. until now i was kind of a tomboy, (boyish clothes, no makeup, short hair, etc). but now i decided to seriously change myself, because i really want to get a boyfriend. so, i now wear loads of revealing girly clothes, and look like an average girl. but how would the ppl take it - tomboy that turned into a slut over one summer?do you think my makeover would attract guys or not? i'm very confused and desperate.
Reply From Katherine, Age 14 - 09/05/04 - IP#: 66.44.58.xxx show message replied to go to original board
you don't have to dress revealing and "slutty" to attract guys, believe me. most guys that are actually genuine are not attracted to something like that. be yourself, if you want to act more girly, thats great. but don't do it just for guys. try nice blouses or shirts from stores like old navy or gap. show off assets that you like about yourself, like eyes or something. good luck, and remember to be yourself. hope i helped, Katherine

my friend ,Sara , got really fat over the summer while she was away at camp , she came home and i was shocked at how much weight she gained , like maybe 35-40 pounds, but shes acting like she didnt notice and she keeps eating like a pig and its like junk food 24/7 and im really worried that she'll become really unhealthy, and her parents asked me because im her best friend to tell her that she needs to stop eating somuch and lose weight , how can i tell her she needs to stop and become healthy again ?

instead why don't you set an example? she pulls out the chips- you pull out carrots and exersize with her! but do it surriptitously- like play an active game opr sport and really get her into it. don't go to her and tell her straight out that she's fat because that could reaqlly hurt her feelings

Hey, I don't know if it necessarly that you are fat it may be because you think you are fat and you do not have good self esteem and so the turns guys off if you are really shy and don't put yourself out there. I know this girl and she is quite overweight and she is so pretty and she has hed boyfriends. On the other hand I don't think I am that big. I am 5'7" and 150 pounds and I am average/big for my age. And I have never had a boyfriend before and you shouldn't feel bad about it. Especially because many of the guys that are very young care about that now because lots of them are small themselves. But once you get to be 15 and 16 and 17 guys have matured and they are like 6'0" tall themselve so they would be more comfortable going out with a bigger girl. I hope this helps. There is help in the future. Trust me. Guys are starting to become interested now. I have a good friend who is 6'4" and he is about 200 pounds and I like him so much. And he is comfortable around me. Hope all this helps. Good luck. Dont do it for the boys, do it for you.

not losing weight because everybody tells you not to when you want to is like losing weight because everybody's telling you to when you're comfy with your body. what they want you to do is unhealthy- go with yourself on this one. show them that you can be even better than they thought the way you want to be!

I have a problem. My best friend "Sara" is overweight and has been gaining quite a lot over the past few months. I know I shouldn't be minding other people's business, but her being my best friend, I feel partially responsible and protective of her. Her parents are complete junkies, her mom being overweight and not caring at all and her dad frequently away on business. Lately she doesn't want to go jogging with me or do anything outdoorsy. Yesterday we went shopping and when she found that she no longer could find clothes at Abercrombie, she went down to the food court and stuffed herself. I don't know how to approach her at all, Im not dumb to think that she doesn't know about her weight, but I dont know how to open up the subject and try to get her motivated to loose so as to be healthy and be able to do more active things. Her self confidence has also gone down, we go to a high school full of rich, beautiful girls who all were size 2s. Any advice on how to approach her and get her motivated to loose weight for her own health? She is also really sensitive on the subject. Or should I just back off? Please Respond! Thanks. Peace.

Hey! I can understand your problem, because I have been placed in the same situation. Tell her that you are getting worried about your weight and would like to go on some sort of diet or start using a fun exercise video but you don't want to do it by yourself because your afraid you won't stick to it. Then ask her to go on one with you, if she still resists then just try to get her to walk around the block or something simple like that.

When i was training for the Air Force Scholarship I had a friend that would walk with me. so what she would do is put a stick or something down say "go" and then keep walking. She would name out a tree ahead of her, and then i would have to run to the tree and then back to the stick to pick it up and run back to her so we could start it all over again. If it sounds confusing. it was. I felt like a little puupy fetching a stick. and since it was so stupid looking my friend didn't mind it cause she loves laughing at me (in a good way don't worry) So maybe try that. make a game out of it. also take Anne's advice. She's pretty good.

You may see a really skinny girl with a guy and hes flirtin or whatever but u know what the next hot girl he see's that other girl is history.. so what is this terlling you.. those are not the kind of guys u want to be longing for or wanting to date. A guy should except you regardless of your weight, looks, ect.. cuz im sure u would do the same for him.. My advice wait for that kind of guy u deserve...someone who is much better than the jerks who are only in it for looks, and believe me there are guys like that out there.. look at all the guys in this chatroom, they are really sweet, and look at anne's bf wouldnt u rather have to wait awhile for someone like that, than be upset over a guy that wont even care about u.. this letter might have sounded harsh to some of the guys out there.. but it's true we see it every day
