Hey Kate, I know what your uncle said probably really did hurt your feelings, and I'm so sorry to hear that he said that. It's rude and un-supportive! I'll try to help, but I can't do much from online, especially since I don't know you personally. First of all, don't plan on losing weight for anyone but YOURSELF. YOU are the most important here, okay? I know how it is wanting to be someone your family can be proud of, but it won't stick unless you're doing it for YOU. As for being out of breath when you climb a flight of stairs, I know a lot of people that happens to! Just take baby steps; ask your mom or dad to sign you up for a team sport, take your dog for a walk (if you have one!), or go for a walk with an older family member or your friends (if it is safe). Most importantly, remember that you are just a kid! You are much too young to be putting this much pressure on yourself, so be nice to you okay? And next time your uncle says something like that, stand up for yourself and tell him to knock it off. Hang in there!

Ive known this site for like 4 weeks now and when i first got here i was 160 lbs and now i am 152! Just the other day my moms friend said i looked like i lost weight! This encouraged my even more! But my family often buys junk food and i dont know how to completely resist it! Any ideas?

Try telling your family about your goals honestly regarding weight loss and that it will really help you if they buy healthy snack food like fruits and veggies in addition to or instead of junk. Tell them you are trying to reach a weight loss goal and I'm sure they will be happy to help you out. At least you will have choices then. You will choose what to eat and that is part of a healthy life-style change. Good luck.

My daughter is obese. I'm considering telling her I want to send her to a boarding school that specializes in "healthy living" -- teaching her the habits she'll need to be healthy (and lose weight). Before I do, I'd like your opinion: How would you react? Would you want to go to a school like this?

Hiyas. Its nice to see you are concerned about your daughter, but I dont think sending her away to school is the answer. You have to see the reasons for why she is over eating. Find out if she is unhappy about something and more than anything ill guess that she needs your support. I wouldnt want my parents to send me away. You could ask her how she would feel about it. But taking her away from her family and friends might not be the answer. Just see a family doctor who might reccomend a dietrition and then just help her by stocking healthy foods in your house. All go on a diet maybe? If you only provide healthy foods she will eat those foods. And also maybe walk with her to start some gentle excersises.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. It is not an option. The first thing you have to do is accept yourself. If you don't, nobody else will. Love who you are now, and that will help you change yourself into what you want to be. You can accomplish your goals. As for your family, they need help. They should love you for you no matter what. If they can't change their ways, find others who will support you. I hope you will find your way. Remember that all of us here are always going to be supportive of you. We will never give up on you.

Hi. I think it is wrong for your brother to do that, but you have to understand that brothers and sister normally act like that. I know it isn't right, but all siblings tease eachother, and if someone says they never do they are lying. All you can do is try not to listen to it. If they are eating foods you like just get out of the room. If you aren't there to see them eating it, maybe you won't be so tempted. Also, exercising is a proven way to get out anger and frustration. So, when they are bothering you just go for a walk or do some other exercise. I have a sister and she has had a weight problem all her life. When I was younger I use to say things about it. Even though I am overweight she is much bigger then me. As I grew older I realized how much it must bother her and it stopped. It is a part of growing up and when your brother gets a little older he will understand. As for now all you can do is ignore him.

lisen i can help u. what u should do is try first to talk to him. if that dosent help, talk to ur parents! they should see what is going on and cut down on how long he plays ps2. i got one for x mass this year, but play it like once a week because i play college basketball and soccer. It should be a family thing, not just ur brothers thing.

I have a friend who is bullimic and she is really skinny anyway. She is a good athlete and doesn't need to be doing this to her body. Is there any way I can stop her?

The only way you can help her is to tell her parents. I know that is hard, but what she is doing will not only destroy her teeth, it can kill her!
