From Marta, child's age 7 Hi, I'm looking for some advice. My 7 year old son is overweight. He has always been a big boy, he was 10 lbs. 4 oz at birth and has always been off the charts as far as height and weight. He is 4'3" tall and weighs 115 lbs. He is solid all over and strong as an ox. He is so sensitive and I am worried that the kids at school will start teasing him.
He really is very active. He plays baseball, basketball and football. He is constantly moving and I swear he doesn't eat all that much. He is very picky about what he eats. He will not touch any vegetable. basically the only thing he will eat is any kind of meat except hot dogs, pasta, bread, cereal, some fruits, cheese, yogurt.
We had blood test run about a year ago, because we were concerned that something was wrong. All test came back fine. And the Dr doesnt really seem too concerned, he said that he was just a big kid, that when a child has such a big start I couldnt expect him to be small. Any advice? I just don't what to do. I am so worried that he will be made fun of. He has already come home from both practice and school in tears because of some kids talking about his size. He is an outstanding athlete and is often underestimated because of his weight. I have even had a coach tell me that they were suprised at how well he played basketball because of his size, I mean if I get comments from a suppossed adult making stupid comments I can only imagine what other kids say to him. Please any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. |
