Hi Nicole. First of all, you shouldn't obsess about "dieting." It doesn't work because once you end your diet, you just put the weight back on!
I'm not overweight, but when I was younger I felt uncomfortable with my body. The trick for exercising is to find something fun; I LOVE dancing. I take a dance class every other day at school, in addition to PE. But PE's no fun. Anyway, stuff like dancing, swimming, tennis, and other sports that don't require too much running might be fun. For me, I despise the idea of running the mile, so I try to exercise in ways that I'm already good at, like yoga or dance. Especially for girls, yoga will help you feel less stressed and more motivated to work out.
As far as eating goes, there are things called 100 Calorie Packs. You can a bag of chocolate covered pretzels, potato chips, cookies, anything you want, for just 100 calories. You can satisfy your cravings by eating food that tastes good but isn't bad for your health. Remember, though, that you shouldn't eat this every day. It still has sugar and fat, so eat them every other day.
Also, grapes, strawberries, pineapples, and cherries are sweet and taste delish. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on there and you've really got something.
For regular meals, eat three medium size meals (breakfast = big, lunch = medium, dinner = small), and a snack before lunch and before dinner. Eating a breakfast like wheat toast with low-fat cream cheese with some eggs with a little low-fat yogurt will give you a ton of energy and fill you up until that healthy snack, like turkey slices or glass of milk. Lunch could be a turkey or grilled chicken sandwich on wheat bread, with a side of those 100 Calorie chips and WATER! I can't stress water enough! For the next snack, try some apple slices. And for dinner, eat something really high-protein like turkey or chicken sausage, a turkey burger without the bun, or maybe some fish. PS: If you don't like the flavor of some of these meats, smother them in ketchup or tomato sauce!
Obviously, I'm only 12, so you should consult a nutritionist and a doctor before changing the way you eat. And if you're a vegetarian, you should REALLY consult a nutritionist for ways to get protein.
Most Important Gold Rule: You Love You.
Love always and good luck,
Jenny :)

for motivation:
think in your head..
what will happen to me when i don't lose weight?
and what will i look like in the next ten years if i keep this up?
the second question really gets me motivated.
