Reply from Ann, Age 17 - 11/03/08 - IP#: 71.192.26.xxx almost more important than diet when preventing diabetes is to work out at least every 48-72 hours consistently. This keeps your body running properly. Even if you stay overweight (which you won't if you exercise and eat healthy), you will not get diabetes with a healthy diet and exercise- it doesn't much matter about your weight as it does about your exercising consistently- that is what my nutrition teacher told me- that overweight people who exercise have less of a chance at getting diabetes than thin people who do not exercise. Your mother can also "cure" her diabetes(for some it goes away for life, for others it goes away until they are much, much older- for many they do not need their meds anymore and feel a lot better. always have her consult her doctor, though before she goes off her meds even if she feels that her body is working properly and have him/her test her blood sugar) by following a healthy and balanced diet and exercising every 48-72 hours.
