For me, it was the fact that I hated exercise and that I loved cakes and soda. Once you know these, you can work on reversing them. I don't think soda anymore, only have cake about once a year, and exercise vigorously at least twice a week (with tons of walking every day), and I'm about 60 pounds down from my highest weight.
