Ht. 5'5", Start: 163 lb, Today: 157 lb (BMI %tile: 93), Goal: 114 lb - I just went to the doctor's office for my physicals and found out I lost 7 pounds in a few weeks. The only problem is that we don't have a scale at home and my parents don't want to get one. I swim laps everyday and I have vigorous life guard training 3 days a week. I really want to lose weight cause I'm tired of people's attitude towards my weight and I want to be able to find clothes that I like. I want to look good in a swimsuit and be healthier for sports. I'm going to be a freshman this year and I got braces a few months ago. I have to wear them 2 more years and my goal is to be my goal weight by the time I get them off. I want straight teeth AND healthy WEIGHT by my sweet 16 birthday, prom, wedding and LIFE. I eat healthy, control my portions, but still allow myself a little something sweet once a day. Now I am having a small cup of ice cream and I am enjoying it! I really want to lose weight because my grandma has diabetes and I don't want to get it! Good luck to everyone out there on a journey to a better you! Just don't let losing weight become an obsession or be all you think about. Enjoy life!

Not having a scale is problematic. I would save money and get a cheap but decent scale or tell your parents of your goals an ask them to buy a scale or at least pay half. Also a good way to monitor your weight without a scale is to evaluate yourself each night. See how your body feels. Way full? Starving? Not full but not hungry? Look at your food choices and praise yourself when good but when bad make goals to improve but not linger on the negative. I know how you feel about your grandma. My grandma has type 2 diabetes, has had multiple surgeries, and because of her diabetes and weight she has congestive heart failure. It's scary to think one-fourth of my genes are like that. But the good news is, is that no matter what our genes are like we can control our weight and health. True, you can't change your genes but you sure can do all that is in your power to improve your health. Your off to a great start, good luck :)

That a great start lost 7 pounds, You need a sacle to help keep track of your weight, that a really issue not to have a scale. I would aim 125 pounds or 130 pounds. 114 pounds is to skinny for your hight 5'5 dont give up to be a healthy weight. I would check your BMI to see what is a good weight for your ht. Body frame, and bones. Keep going with the weight loss.
