Yes, I know you guys and gals will ALL frown upon me for this, but this summer during our 5 week band tour (i'm in a marching band) I went anorexic, and eventually bulimic. I was SO obsessed about being skinny like all of my other friends, and getting the guy I really liked to notice me. I still haven't figured out whether I was trying to get his attention by just being able to look better physically, or what. Unfortunately, he did notice me, but only because of my problem. However, we were already pretty good friends, and he was willing to try to help me get through it. Once again, on the bad side of things, I secretly decided to be bulimic so that nobody would notice. I was finally starting to be happy with my looks and my size (i had lost 25 lbs. by this time, in 3 weeks) and one of my instructors started to notice my extreme weight loss and attitude difference. She started forcing me to eat, and always accompanied me to the bathroom, making sure I wasn't puking. By the end of tour, I had lost a grand total of 30 lbs. My family noticed, but didn't say anything, and all of my friends noticed, and just about everyone noticed. They hadn't seen me in 5 weeks, how could you not? Anyway, long story short, I ended up in the hospital because of organ failures, and I was there for 3 weeks, missed the first day of high school, and missed out on a LOT. I gained back most of that in the hospital, but now I'm losing it again (the healthy way i might add). DON'T DO IT. PEER PRESSURE IS STUPID.

Being overweight is not what you may think. People, skinny people, tell us to loose weight. Did they ever think that we might not know how to? Sure, calorie counting, excercise. But for most of us, we're kids. We don't know what it's like to be skinny. We have been fat since, well, forever. We don't know what to do. We want to be liked for ourselves, but some people can't see past the large sizes we wear or our weight. Others sympathzise that oh, we're poor fat people. We're strong because places like this web site make us strong and make us think that we're not the only ones being made fun of. We're not the only ones that, no matter how hard we try, just can't seem to lose weight. And it's places like this that help us not give up on slow days and keep going.
I say all this from personal expirience. Before I came to this web sight I was 170lbs, 5foot 1inch, and 12years old. I was a size 18. Now, I am 150lbs, 5foot 1inch and a size 13/14. I could have done this by myself, and if i did i would probably 180 pounds right now. But i believe that the most powerful Weight loss tool is group support. It keeps you going and encourages you not to give up. I hope anyone who wants to lose weight will consider being in a support group because it is the best thing you can do for yourself. I still have a way to go (my goal is 130 pounds) but without the help of my peers, I would not be where I am today.
