Reply from Laura, Age 18 - 11/19/02 - IP#: 64.172.50.xxx Though it's important to keep your fat intake low, you will notice on the nutrition food labels the lower the fat, the higher the sugar. Sugar actually turns into fat. People get fooled into thinking it's better for them, but it's not always true. Try to eat things that are as close to natural as possible. Stay away from fast food places completely. It actually sounds like you're not eating enough calories during the day. For cereal in the morning make sure that it is something healthy with low sugar. For your sandwich, switch to 100% whole wheat bread. Eat tuna sandwiches(regular mayonaisse) with vegetables on it (I have pickles and pepperchinis and mustard) Try to eat your carbs (fruit, bread, cereal, milk) in the earlier part of the day. I am never hungry, with the way I eat. I make sure that I have lots of fruits and vegetables. I also change the kind of food I eat, so I don't get bored. Whatever you do, don't tell yourself you can't have this or that. Good that you eat that chocolate.
Reply from Caprice, Age 14 - 11/19/02 - IP#: 62.30.192.xxx hey! well my diets good really, i sumtimes really crave sugary foods but i try not to eat them, i have one chocolate bar a week for a treat, i usualy have cereal in the morning, wholemeal sandwhich and fruit for lunch, and dinner usually vegetables and other things like that or soup, or salad, ( it depends ) i make sure i drink 8 glasses of water a day ( but i have to have juice in it) and i have vegetables and things like that. i rarely have puddings, i may have the occasional low fat yogurt.

Reply from Laura, Age 18 - 11/18/02 - IP#: 64.172.50.xxx Oh and to answer your question. I think you exercise just great, keep it up. Do weight training 2-3 times a week, full body and that will be even better. What is your "diet" like?
Reply from Laura, Age 18 - 11/18/02 - IP#: 128.218.8.xxx If you aren't too sore, it is ok to exercise daily. That's what are bodies were made to do. I have been exercising daily. Just not going hard on my body all the time. If my muscle is sore I rest it, but it will usually feel better after a couple days of being worked out. Once you lose the weight (ONLY if you lose the weight slowly) you can cut back on your exercise and STILL eat healthy, and maintain the weight. Your sister is talking about fad diets, or crash diets, where you lose a lot of weight fast and practically starve yourself on some ridiculous diet where you prepare things that no one has ever heard of...and you lose muscle and yeah, you always regain by using that method. But this way I am telling you about is the only TRUE way to lose FAT (Not weight, FAT) By eating good you give your body the right fuel it needs to work, protein, carbs, and good fats. And your body will eat what you give it, instead of the muscle. And you will build muscle through weight lifting. Then doing cardio will burn fat. You will never see results right away. But little changes in the appearance of your skin could happen in a couple weeks, then by a couple months you could be in the comfortable 130's.
Reply from Laura, Age 18 - 11/18/02 - IP#: 64.172.50.xxx 1 more thing. It is SUPER important that you eat 5-6 small meals a day. When you starve yourself your metabolism slows down to help keep your body alive (it eats your muscle, which is bad and makes you fatter) So when your metabolism slows down, anything you ever eat will be stored as fat, because your body wants to be prepared for the next time you starve yourself. So by providing nutritious food your body doesn't hold onto food and make it fat, because it knows that it will constantly be fed. Then your metabolism gets faster and burns calories and you get more energy and your workouts count. If you don't eat properly, your workouts pretty much aren't going to do anything. I guarantee if you listen to me you'll be 130 lbs in 2 months. My workout schedule is this: Monday, Wednesday, Friday - weight train full body for 1 1/2 hours. plus 30 minutes of cardio (interval walk/run, elliptical trainer, stair master, bike) Tuesday, Saturday - Cardio for 45mins - 1 hour do some ab workouts and lower back workouts Thursday and Sunday, dance to music at home, and take it easy.
Reply from Caprice, Age 14 - 11/18/02 - IP#: 62.30.192.xxx Hey again, thanks you have helped alot :) so is it ok to excercise every day? because i talked to my sister and she said, once you lose weight and excercise a bit less ( cuz you have lost the weight) then u regain it. but i dont know if she is right because you will still be excercising but a bit less, and eating healthily? i try and to a dance video ( for an hour) 3 times a week, i also do volleyball and basketball at school. and also im walking around school all day, plus i try an go to the gym. do u think this is too much excercise??
Reply from Laura, Age 18 - 11/18/02 - IP#: 64.172.50.xxx If you are giving yourself 10 months to lose weight from being only 154. Girl, you are smart. In those 10 months (40 weeks), they say a pound to 2 pounds a week is healthy. If you drink lots of water, you will lose more weight in the beginning. (all the water retention your body has been holding onto because you weren't drinking enough water, will release because the body thinks "hey i'm getting enough water" so it won't hold onto it anymore, and you will lose some of that water weight.) Then by walking, you will burn some odd calories. Try intervals, where you walk for 45 seconds, then jog for 45 seconds. for 45 minutes a day. Your body is meant to move everyday, as you are not weight training the same body part 2 days in a row. (when lifting weights, it is the time when you let your body rest that it builds lean muscle) (that's why it is important to have your 8 hours sleep, lose fat that way!) As for cardio, you can do that daily. Take 1 day a week and maybe do some light walking.
Reply from Laura, Age 18 - 11/18/02 - IP#: 64.172.50.xxx Do your parents have healthy food around the house? That would be a start. Ask your parents to buy more healhful food. Always keep some fruit and or vegetables with you for snack, so you don't get hungry and eat junk. Make it a goal to walk everyday for 1 week (starting today until next Friday) and starting TODAY, do lunges, squats, push ups, and jumping jacks. Or you can dance, just keep moving for 20 minutes. After a week you should notice your energy level getting higher. And if you eat good and exercise by 1 month you should see some results.

Reply from Laura, Age 18 - 11/18/02 - IP#: 128.218.8.xxx If you are trying to lose weight, and haven't exercised a lot in the past - start out with 20 mins of walking, jogging 7 times a week. (then each week add more time until you work your way up to 45 mins of cardio(any activity that keeps your heart beat up) You should also do lunges and squats, push ups to build a little muscle (muscles burns fat) for 20 mins 3 x a week. If you need tips on eating I can give lots of those. Pretty much ask me any questions and I will do my best research to find the answers that WILL help you. The number one thing to remember when trying to lose fat, is CONSISTANCY. You have to keep doing the workouts consistantly. And patience, it will take some time. How much do you weigh, how tall are you, what is the size of your body frame? Good luck.
