how many times a week should i lift weights? and when i do, how long should i do it?

Reply from Michelle, Age 15 - 01/23/03 - IP#: 63.168.31.xxx You should only lift weights every other day in order to give your muscles time to heal. When you weightlift, you are ripping muscles, and then they get bigger by growing new tissue to heal themselves. Although, if you weightlift with your legs one day, and your arms next, that is fine, just don't work the same muscle groups 2 days in a row. If you start with dumbells, I suggest starting with 5 pounds and working up to 10, or maybe even 15. If you are doing bench press and other assorted large equipment exercises, start with just bar, then add weight ever other time you lift. Good luck!
