Hi Everyone. I am 18 years old and I go away to college. I'm 6 feet. Before college, I was already over-weight. I weighed about 245 pounds and was (at the time) trying to cut down to the early-200s. However, these past few months at college, I have ballooned into almost 260 (258 or 259 to be exact) pounds. I am quite upset about this because I can tell in the mirror that I have gotten bigger and I stayed at around the 240s for at least the past 3 years. I really want to try and get back to what I was (245) in a couple months and then try my hardest to work down to maybe 210 or 220 pounds. That would be awesome. I know it's still considered overweight, but since I am tall, it wouldn't show as much. How long do you all think it would take to lose about 50 pounds? Anyone have any food or exercise tips? I really appriciate all responses. Hope to hear from you soon. D L.

Reply from Jackie, Age 16 - 03/13/05 - IP#: 24.14.141.xxx Do you have a roommate? If so, ask them to motivate you... Make them force you to go to the gym and scold you if you eat unhealthfully. It's helpful to have someone pushing you.
Reply from D L, Age 18 - 03/13/05 - IP#: 216.249.52.xxx Thanks everyone for the advice. My college does have a gym and I have gone before many times, but I'll always fall out of the routine. For the last month and a half that I am here, I am going to try my best to go almost everyday for about 30 minutes. And I agree with you all, trying to lose weight at college can be hard because of the food they have here. It's not like at home where my Mom uses all light food and makes healthier stuff. I try to eat salad and stir fry's over here as much as I can, but sometimes I just get tempted to go grab pizza or a hamburger. I gotta cut that stuff out because I really wanna lose weight. Thanks again for all your advice and any other comments are appriciated. :)

Reply from helen, Age 15 - 03/13/05 - IP#: 68.217.7.xxx hey DL like the others said diet and excersize i know it can be boring but find a cardio excersize you like! try them all and do that for however long you want every day also if you dont like doing crunches just add them to your daily routine because im sure there are chores and stuff like work that you dont want to do but you do them because you need to this is just another one of those things..like do 100 crunches a night and go up from there also lifting weights would be great too. for diet go through a couple days and really look at what you eat. you will know when you arent eating healthy so the next day or the next time you choose to eat something unhealthy eat half of it and to fill you up the rest of the way eat fruit and veggies.. i hope this helps ~helen~ p.s DRINK ALOT OF WATER
Reply from *Ray*Ray*, Age 14 - 03/13/05 - IP#: 69.204.106.xxx Eat less calories, about 1500. Make sure when you do eat that its healthy food because 1500 calories of junk doesn't get you anywhere. Do cardio exercise at least 4 times a week for at least 30 minutes. You should probably add some weight lifting and exercies like crunches and pushups too so you will get toned in addition to losing weight, the more muscle you get the easier it becomes for your body to burn fat. Try not to eat out very often, try not to eat a lot of junk food. Good luck! *Ray*Ray*
Reply from Christina, Age 16 - 03/13/05 - IP#: 24.233.84.xxx Hey, to loose 50 lbs, you can do it in about 4-5-6 months. Its hard being @ college with the food there and trying to loose weight. But your VERY tall, so you got a great advantage. I'm sure your college has a gym? Start going!! Use the tredmill, or eliptical for a half an hour. Then lift weights. Do an hour a day, 5 times a week. For food, you gotta be careful because college food isent always nutritious. Eat more salad, don't always eat the dessert there, be careful with the pizza and fries, ect. Just use your common sence and add more veggies and fruit. Good luck!!
Reply from Kaitlyn, Age 15 - 03/13/05 - IP#: 216.74.216.xxx You could lose it in about 5 months, maybe 6. For excersize try to walk around campus or if you have a trak at your college walk around it for at least 30 minutes a day. After the first few months, try adding weights, or try jogging a little throughout your workout. Good luck.
