A lot of you are trying to enforce on other people that you have to eat at least 1500 (that's the most popular number I've seen) calories to healthfully loose weight. But honestly, that number is not going to apply for everyone. Each person has a different amount of exercise they do each day and bodytype that is going to alter that caloric intake. Plus, you can eat less calories than that and still maintain a life with exercise and not be starving all the time. For example:
Breakfast: (Approx. 230 cal)
-Wheaties + half cup soymilk
-Small glass orange juice
Lunch: (Approx. 250 cals)
-2 cups spinach (salad) with two tablespoons fat free italian dressing
-banana
-cup of milk
Snack: (120 cals)
-apple
-1 serving baby carrots
Dinner: (250)
-1/2 cup mixed veggies
-Salmon burger (no bun)
-1/2 cup Fat free cottage cheese
All together, this day would equal 850 calories. So if you ate according to this plan, you could still easily fit in a piece of fruit or more veggies if you get hungry. I am just saying, don't freak out on people when they're eating less than 1500 calories a day. I mean, less than 700 is a little extreme...but I think you understand what I'm saying. I've lost weight with a low calorie diet, without starving, so I know. If anyone would like my help meal planning for them, e-mail: Kay_dee_lee@hotmail.com

If you want to stunt your growth and slow down your metabolism then fine, eat that little. Listen, if your body gets used to living off of that tiny amount of food, as soon as you eat a little tiny bit more you will gain weight. And there's almost no way to "speed up" your metabolism. You are screwing yourself up for life.

Not eating enough slows your metabolism, eating to much slows your metabolism. Yes, it DOES depend on the person's body type, AND their age. I'm 16, and take in approx. 1200 calories a day. Someone younger than myself would take in more like 1500. It's true we shouldn't say oh you need at least 1500 a day, because that's not true, it depends on the person. I would HIGHLY suggest that EVERYONE check with a doctor about your calorie intake, it's very important if your on a calorie diet.

Actually, you're wrong. Most grown women diet at 1200 calories as an average.
