Hello everyone. I have 3 sons, Tom, William Jr. and Mark. They are all overwieght. Tom my oldest, is 15 ans is 6'3". He weighs 223 lbs. and just gains and gains and gains. He will sit on the couch all day eating, his favorite cookies, chips and cake. The Three C's I call them. He has only 3 rolls, but they have to be 3 inches tall. His stomach is very large and he wears bigger pans than me. I can look at him from the side and see how much his stomach hangs over his pants. He wieghed 165 lbs when he was 11! I hope he loses wieght soon.
My middle son, William Jr., is the most overweight of the three. He is 5'3" and he weighs 197 lbs! He is 13 and his BMI is 30.7! I catch him at night in the fridge looking for food. He never does anything! He goes to school (with three sandwitches, 4 soda's, 9 huge chocolate chip cookies. Not to mention the pizza and fries he buys in school. I can tell that he doesn't care if he weighs as much as me! He has 5 rolls and a really bouncy stomach thts larger then Tom's. William Jr.'s stomach hangs over his pants 5 inches!!
My youngest, Mark, is 12 and 5'3" and wieghs 172 lbs. He likes going out side and running but he gets tired and comes in and eats! He has to wear mens size 29 jeans! Bigger than mine!!! I once took him to a restaraunt... 3 servings of pasta, 6 sodas, 3 slices of cake and then a bag of candy for dessert. I can't take him to anymore restaraunts because I can't pay the bill. His stomach hangs too (far) and his chests hang out far too. Please help my 3 overweight children!! -William

Put your children on the Atkins Diet. No sugar, no cafine, no pasta, no rice, no bread, no potatoes. Eat lots of meat, buy the low card atkins bread, and the muffing mixes, the brownie mixes, the cookie mixes... all low carb. No sodas... drink lots and lots of water. It is easy, you all can do it.
I did this with my overweight son, he lost the weight, now his school work has improved, his writing is 100 times better. He can't believe the difference himself. He feels much better... but... you have to take all the high carb food out of the house.. so there is no temptations. It is good for your children. The American heart asssoc. has finally declared that the Atkins diet is good for you, not bad like sceptics like to say.
THE DR. ATKINS CENTER TOOK 100 CHILDREN DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD, WHO WERE ON MEDICINE FOR HAVING ADHD and put them on the Atkins diet. Out of all those children, when the study was done, 2 children really had the ADHD. THE 98 CHILDREN LEFT WERE ALL CURED!! IT IS ALL ABOUT THE CORRECT FOOD... NO SUGAR.. OR VERY LIMITED.

Hello, my heart goes out to you all. I have a daughter that is over weight too, but she has lost some pounds and she is still working hard to lose more. For one i have made this a family thing for her, i am eating right too along with exercising with her. I have cut out going to fast foods, eating fried foods and alot of fat period, NO SODAS. She and i eat more bake foods and i make sure that we eat dinner before 7p.m. everyday now. I must say this my daughter has a sleeping disorder and she has to sleep with a machine called a cpap to help her to breath right at night, god knows this is no happy feeling at all. God knows i am working hard to help her and she is doing great. If you would like to know some of the things i am doing to help her please feel free to email me MZ_HONEY29@YAHOO.COM. THANKS AND TAKE CARE AND I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK WITH HELPING YOUR CHILD.
P.S. YOU AS THE PARENT HAVE TO TRY AND WORK HARD TO HELP YOUR CHILD, STOP BUYING THE FATTY JUNK FOODS AND REPLACE THEM WITH HEALTHY SNACKS. ANOTHER TOO, WE CAN'T TELL OUR CHILD NOT TO EAT THIS OR THAT, IF WE ARE GOING TO EAT THE FOODS WE ARE TELLING THEM NOT TO EAT...THATS NOT RIGHT KIDS LEARN FROM EXAMPLES.

You certainly do have problems there with your sons. They have got into the habit of over-eating and over-indulging. To break that habit is going to be very, very difficult but not impossible and it can be done. It is very tricky because whatever discipline you invoke in the house, as soon as they get out then they will probably revert to old habits.
I would start off by being cruel to be kind. You have to try and get them to buy into the idea that they will be doing themselves some real damage if they carry on as they are. Show them some shocking statistics, let them feel genuinely worried enough so they want to start helping themselves to eat a healthier diet.
Next, assuming you have been successful at getting them to buy into the idea - and if you haven't then you may have lost at the first hurdle - decide on a realistic and easily obtainable goal of weight loss in the first month - be it a low amount or whatever - but realistic or something that will encourage them.
You next have to gradually start reducing what they eat. Not too drastically otherwise they will get really hungry all the time. Maybe stop having certain foods in the house or low fat versions. Instead of them eating four cookies, maybe three at first and the lower fat they are the better.
If possible try and encourage more exercise, anything is better than nothing, however little.
Maybe try and get them all to a nutritionist or someone who can advise you all on healthy eating, obviously something has gone drastically wrong there. Are you overweight yourself? Maybe they feel that if dad is big then it is okay for them to be too. Maybe you all ought to follow this healthier eating regime. Try and arm yourself with as much information as you can find on calorie and fat content of foods and that way you will know what they should be eating less of and what in fact they can eat a lot of.
I know that all of the above is very difficult and will involve a complete change in your family's eating habits and their attitude to food, but you did ask for suggestions and help.
Finally, don't give up on this. If they have a bad day, no matter, just begin the next day with a positive attitude and don't give up. Good luck.
