I have an 11 year old boy. He now weighs 133lbs. He gained 10lbs over summer break. The big problem right now is that he has two older brothers (14 & 16) who eat tons of junk food and are both thin boys because they are very active. My 11 year old is very inactive because of some motor skill problems, and he is diagnosed as having aspergers syndrome, which is like a really mild form of autism. Anyway, he doesn't have any freinds to go out and play with, so he stays in alot and plays gameboy and watches TV. How can I deny the older, thinner boys, goodies, when they don't have a weight problem? Yet if I buy them stuff, the 11 year old will eat it too. How can I get the 11 year old active when he won't participate in team sports, and has no freinds to play with? Man we need some help here...

i think that if you have the time, or anyone at home, really, has the time, they should say,"hey ____! lets go shoot some hoops or go on a bike ride!" after about two months of doing this exercise, try putting together family sports with the other families around your house. one day you can have a relay race, the next week get together and go swimming at the local pool or have a basketball/flag football/softball game. eventually he might want to join a real team with his peers and before long he'll be skinnier than his brothers.

I know what you are going through. I have a 12 year old son with the same problem. What I do is try putting the whole family on a diet even the two older boys. Say it is good for their health. Get rid of all fattening snacks. Maybe even buy a snack like ice cream or cookies once a month or every other month as an award but when you do hide it or keep it out of your 11 year old's reach so he doesn't sneak any. Try to get the whole family doing exercises or working out go on a family bike ride or play basketball. try to get him interested in activities. This has worked so far for us. Good luck! By the way my sons email address is jdsportsfan@aol.com if your son wants to chat with him.
