My son is 9 years old and his doctor told me that he is overweight-he is 104 pounds and 54 inches. It is very difficult to teach him how to control his weight when I grew up with bad eating habits in my household. I have eliminated the fattening foods in the house and replaced them with lower fat ones. At one point he did lose 6 pounds, because every time he wanted to overeat I told him he had to go on the treadmill for 1/2 hour. I seem to have lost control of the situation(from being to strict?). He is very fussy with his food and very reluctant to exercise. He got in the "tv" trap and now it is hard to break the habit. I try to keep him active, despite his reluctance. I don't seem to get much support from the family-they disregard my concern and tell me that he's growing and to stop being so hard on him. I wish that I knew for sure that I was doing the right thing?

I am 11 years old myself. i am 5 feet 2 inches and think that i am fat. i tried the atkins diet and lost 8 pounds in 1 week! i lost 21 pounds in 3 weeks. the atkins diet is no sugar, and only 20 carbs perr day. it is no joke. it works tremendsly. you dont even have to do any exersize. for breakfast, you could have eggs. for lunch, you could have cheese, eggs, low carb bread for a sandwich. you get the idea right?
good luck...aryana
p.s. if you child wants somthing sweet, they have atkins chocolate bars that taste just loke chocolate.

A few years ago, I had a similiar situation.Trust your child's pediatrician on this.Get your child involved in a any fitness activity of his choice and try to watch portion size. If you can teach healthy habits now, hopefully he can "grow" out of this stage.
