Are hot dogs ok for my daughter's diet?

There's a brand of hot dog that I think tastes ok. Ball Park smoked white turkey franks. They're 45 calories and fat free. With a light 90 calorie bun, it's a pretty good substitute for the full fat ones.

Your best bet is to go for veggie dogs. With ketchup/mustard or relish (depending on your preference) they taste like regular hotdogs yet have much less fat & calories. Also, instead of putting the hotdog in a bun, wrap it up in tortilla bread. It's much healthier then a hotdog but you still get the satisfaction of eating one.

She can probably have one every once in a while. No more.

Check the fat calories. There isn't much of a fat difference between light hot dogs and regular hot dogs. Fat free hot dogs are tasteless. Turkey hot dogs are also high in fat - again check the label. If you can find 100% all chicken hot dogs, those would be okay. You can find the chicken hot dogs through Market Day foods. If you can't find these, one hot dog isn't going to hurt...however, you have to make sure it's only one hot dog. Don't forget hidden calories and sugars like in catchup or pickle relish. Mustard is a diet "do."
