My daughter is 12 yrs old and is about 5'3 and 135lbs. She wears a size 9 juniors whichis pretty big. I bought her a pair of pants last year for this year but she can't button them. I have found candy wrappers in her room. LAst year she weighed about 100 pounds so it is a drastic gain. Her belly is getting really large and she is starting to get a turkey neck. How can I help her?

Reply from Lillian, Child's Age 14 - 12/01/04 - IP#: 24.7.116.xxx you know, after reading all these messages from parents i've realized how hard it must be for you guys to have to cope with it. the truth of the matter is, you can talk to your child about it all you want, but if she's like most kids, me included, she's gonna be embarrassed to have to listen to it. a lot of times i found myself thinking "if only i could find something more healthy in the fridge" or "i didn't eat at home so i guess ill just eat here" (wherever it may be, most often some place where i can only find fried food). so id say that if your concerned u may want to stop buying junk food, if u do, and if you hav the time, you could cook for ur daughter. i kno there often isnt time for this but if it's a priority in your life, ull find the time. other than that, u can count on the fact that ur daughter is more upset and embarrased about her pants not fitting than you could ever be. it's a HORRIBLE feeling and i understand how badly u want to help, but often parents make it worse.im not saying i kno ur daughter in any way or what she's going through, but to some point i can relate, and i know it's hard, but she WILL catch on eventually, and maybe eventually she'll welcome ur help. for right now, maybe she'd like the help of other kids, and this site is really good for that. maybe showing it to her wood prove to be a useful tool. anyways, best of luck!
