After reading all your stories, my concern seems so trivial. But I would still like some advice if at all possible. My son, Jack, is wonderfully gifted. He is at boarding school but I and his father see him frequently (about 1-3 times a month). My husband, myself, and my other seven children are extremely athletic. However, Jack our third of eight total children is not so. He finds it a waste of time. He gets straight A's in extremely difficult AP and honors classes and for that I am beyond proud of him. However, he is 5 foot 9 and weighs 200-215 pounds (being he is away I am not exactly sure but he is in that range). He has a large gut but a relatively flat chest. He wears a size 36 (tight) dockers or size 38 (loose) dockers so I am guesing his waist about 37 inches. He is extremly confident about his appearence and has no plans to lose weight. I have truly no idea what to do. Being he is away, he can eat whatever he wants. I think he drinks alcohol significantly also and I don't think he controls that too well. I think He may smoke pot but I'm not going to pass judgements until I am more sure. I know he will be extremely successful one day but I want him to live past the age of 30. Please help!!

Since he is a gifted boy as you say, I shouldnt worry too much. When and if he feels that his overweight is a problem, I am sure he will be intelligent enough to handle this problem himself. Besides you dont die at 30 from a BMI of 29-30. So let the boy be as he is and dont expect him to look like his brothers.

People the woman said that her child is 16, may possible drink and smoke pot yet is very successful in grades away at his boarding school. Honestly the child is not that bad as far as weight is concerned. The fact that he may drink might be the reason he has a few extra pounds to lose plus pot smokers do tend to eat a little more. I think that my worries would be in regards to my 16 possibly forming a drug and alcohol habit not that his pants are a size 37. Why don't you try and get him treatment for those issues first, I am sure the few extra pounds will come off after he stops partying.

He may need to lose a few pounds, but he's not very overweight. Since he's at college all you can do it attempt to help him when he comes home and possibly confront him about it, nicely. You have to wait until he takes matters into his own hands though, because you don't have very much influence over his life right now. *Ray*Ray*

I never said he exercised. I said his brothers were exceptionally athletic but he is not at all. I don't lnow he has a rather large gut and I'm concerned. But maybe I'm just a worrying mom

actualy as far as weight goes he really isn't that bad yes he could loese some but if you say he's eating and exerising the way he is then the weight should come off fairly quickly if he changed his ways or slow but it would most likely come off.

He has been busted a couple of times by the cops. Also he recently received a physical at the boarding school and he's 16 years old and he is 5' 10" and weighs 212 pounds. My numbers were unofficial earlier as I had not seen him for a while.

it says what his age is at the top of the post. lola, what makes you suspect that your son is drinking and smoking pot?
