I have been concerned that my daughter is overweight at 140lbs. When I looked at some of the children on this website I see that she is not as seriously overweight as some of the ones here. When walking up a hill she does however get out of breath before I do. The amount that she is overweight is steadily climbing and she I think is headed for a serious weight problem. She doesn't seem to want healthy foods, and likes a diet of pizza. Her mother and I are both diabetics and she is at risk of going that way. The key here is I want her to change her diet willingly. I have been eating healthy foods myself and trying to set an example. She doesn't seem to like salads. She seems to understand but has a hard time putting it into practice.

You can make pizza at home lower fat and diabetic friendly. She may not be as overweight as some on here but each situation is different and having 2 diabetic parents is a red flag for her future. She needs to learn to control it now. Its not easy but take it one day at a time. Also if only good things are in the house then she can't eat what isn't there.

She should be eating the healthy diet you and your wife, as diabetics, are (hopefully) eating. You may need to put your foot down. Limit the pizza to once a week, for example.

Try to introduce her to new healthy foods, like fruit, vegetables, etc. Make an effort to make healthy dinners and buy stuff to make healthy lunches. don't let her buy school lunch too often. allow her a treat once a day, but if she snacks on junk food, she can't have it. (or something along those lines, you can decide on exact "rules") etc.. Buy low fat ice cream, low sugar cereals, and low fat foods that you normally eat. she won't even notice the difference
