Hello, I'm a teenager and i'm sorry to be on this side of the site. I joined this because i'm trying to find ways for my cousin to lose weight he's incredibly obese and only 7 years old. But anyways i saw the ADD thing and i am a sufferer from ADD, i took Ritalin, Concerta, and now i'm on Adderal. ADD medications tend to keep you thin because it lowers your appetite, i felt full all the time. Do not blame her size fully on ADD though, it's not just that, it's many other things. Yes, they are finding a link to ADD with being overweight because food stimulates the brain and people with ADD their brains are underactive and try to boost up the activity by themselves (drugs, alcohol, other addictions, and now food)but see a neurologist about her ADD not a family doctor because they only prescribe you the basic (the neurologist can tell immediately). why i'm saying this is because the medicine maybe not working for her or it's not a high enough dose, some make people very depressed or unmotivated leading into bad habits with food and lack of exercise. I had a negative response to Concerta and gained 20lbs in 3 months so i know from personal experience. I know this site isn't for ADD but if ADD has a link to obesity then you should get it checked by a proffessional. hope this helps.

You need to make sure to make it clear that she is NOT to eating after a certain time. Make sure you set strict rules and if she does not abide by them then there is to be some kind of consequence if she doesn't abide by the rules. At night a person's metabolism slows down while they sleep, so the later you eat the more likely it is you will gain weight. Best wishes!

Night time eating and sneaking food may be associated with emotional eating. It can be a coping mechanism for stress or other things that may be bothering her. If she is choosing junk foods at night, be sure to not have these foods available in the house. Helping you daughter "quit" these foods may take so time as it is similar to managing an addiction. Try and talk to her about what may be bothering her. Even though she says to you "let me be me", she may be unhappy, stressed etc. considering she is eating a lot when you go to bed. It's great she is active playing sports. Keep encouraging her to continue as it will build self-confidence. Good Luck.
