My child is teased all the time at school and has terrible self esteem issues. When shes depressed she eats and when she eats she gets more depressed because the fact that she ate that, meant she put on more weight. We dont have any junk food around but she will stuff herself on apples and 100 calorie packages. Its not healthy at all. We also have no idea what to do exercise wise. Shes 5'10 and weighs 250. Please help, I want to put an end to her depression.

I know it can be hard, so first of all explain to her that who ever teases her has worse problems of their own. Next, make sure there is something to do other than eat. Something to relieve stress other than eating. When she comes home and is depressed about being teased, than offer to do some kind of activity with her, or entrust her with some kind of duty to get something done, like chores or looking something up for you on the internet. For exercise, personally, I feel jump rope is tons of fun, and it's something you can get the whole family into. Dancing is also easy and a lot of times it doesn't even feel like exercise. And chances are if you can get her up and moving when she's depressed she'll feel better, because exercising releases endorphins which make us feel happy. Best wishes! =D

Hi, Nicole,
I know where you're coming from. My son will stuff himself with anything, too. My husband and I are currently seeing a counselor, but Jake hasn't gone yet.
What about a healthy program like Weight Watchers. They can eat ANYTHING in moderation. My therapist suggested just walking around the block with Jake for no other reason than spending time together. This way he's getting exercise without realizing it. That's where we are starting, because I'm not an outside person.
Hope this helps.
Michele
