Hi my name Jess, my son is 12 years old and was very over weight and as a result of this was subject to relentless persecution, not only by his class mates and frenamies but also society on the whole. After a horrible experience at a the pool last summer I decided to take a stand. I also decided that I wasn't going to use a scale because of the long journey that lay ahead of us and the shame that is caused by the act of the "dreaded weigh in". Just by luck I happened to catch The Discover Channel doing a piece on a really amazing product that has helped us a great deal. It's called the Quantum Scale. What makes this so fantastic is that never displays the users weight ! It secretly records the starting weight at the beginning of your diet and will only show a loss or gain but at no point ever displays how much you weigh. It is inspiring and a great motivator. As we know staying positive and motivated are the two biggest contributors to having a success. This is a product that is based on the power of positive thought, removing the negative energy and building a person back up one day a time with positive reinforcement. We love it ! Kudos to Quantum Scale

Reply from Veronica, Child's Age 16 - 09/27/09 - IP#: 93.141.87.xxx Common people stop fighting!I think that scale is a good idea! If you girls had an overweight child, would you want him to see how he/she weights 300 lbs? What good would that do exept making you both cry? Jess, buy that scale for your son,he knows he is overweight,he doesnt need to see the big numbers, all he needs to know that he is losing weight.
Reply from annie, Child's Age 16 - 09/21/09 - IP#: 98.150.244.xxx In your last post, Taylor, you talk about "cheating your child", "sheltering your child", etc. Taylor, you state that you're 16 years old. You have NO idea about raising a child. As I've stated earlier, why don't you just accept the fact that the scale Jess mentioned may help some people and not others. The main thing is that the young person lose weight and lead a healthier lifestyle. If such a scale helps a young person lose weight, it's a good thing even though others may not be helped by it.
Reply from Taylor, Age 16 - 09/20/09 - IP#: 74.177.42.xxx No, she said it only shows a loss or gain. If it says how much then your kid would know or at least have an idea of their weight, unless you're raising an F student with no basic math skills what so ever, so it's not a terribly grand idea anyway. I mean, chances are your child has been weighed at a doctors office or whatever, they have an idea what they weigh, if they don't know for sure, they know just about. And if they can add and subtract they still know. And while no one likes knowing what they weigh, bottom-line it's necessary evil. I think it's unfair to cheat your child out of knowing the facts for fear of hurting their feelings. In weight loss ESPECIALLY it's important to know all the facts, and if your child is old enough to be on a weight loss plan of some sort, they are old enough that they have the right to know the facts. You can't shelter them forever.
Reply from annie, Child's Age 16 - 09/19/09 - IP#: 98.150.244.xxx @ Taylor---I'd suggest you go back and read Jess's original post. The point of the Quantum Scale is that it tells you how much weight you've LOST from the start to present. I don't understand why you can't see that while some people benefit from knowing their present weight (like you), other people are intimidated by the number and are discouraged from weight loss because it seems like such a tough task, like my son was. Please accept the fact that this scale may help some people even though it might not help you.
Reply from Taylor, Age 16 - 09/19/09 - IP#: 75.66.40.xxx @annie- It isn't how much weight anyone loses with this thing you don't KNOW how much you lose. And no, you cannot know the reality of the situation without all the facts. Knowing how much you're losing is important, therefore knowing how much you weigh is important.
Reply from annie, Child's Age 16 - 09/17/09 - IP#: 98.150.244.xxx Just one thing--anyone who is overweight DOESN'T need to see their weight on a scale to know "the reality of the situation". All they have to do is look in the mirror after bathing, or see the looks and hear the snickers of total strangers on the street--or worse yet, of "friends" in school or on the playground---that's just what Jess, the original poster, stated.
Reply from annie, Child's Age 16 - 09/17/09 - IP#: 98.150.244.xxx I'd suggest that lol and Taylor stop and consider that not everyone reacts the same way. For my son, when he lost a lot of weight at age 13 and 14, it wasn't WHAT he weighed, but HOW MUCH WEIGHT HE LOST. At first, when he was 13 and the doctor told him he weighed 289, he finally told me he had so much weight to lose that there was "no point in trying". Instead, my husband suggested he make a graph to show his weight. As the line went down, showing the weight loss, even if only 1/2 pound a week, it motivated my son. He finally ended up losing 100 pounds. And who cares if the post is a "commercial plug"? I for one didn't know about this item until I read the posting and I certainly think it has value--maybe not for everyone, but for those kids (and adults) who get discouraged by seeing their weight and how high it is. No one is forcing any of us to buy this item, and I appreciate the posting.
Reply from Taylor, Age 16 - 09/17/09 - IP#: 75.66.40.xxx I know that for most people, even kids, knowing what they weigh motivates them. It can be hard yes, but it's a necessary thing. They need to know the facts, they need to know the reality of the situation.
Reply from lol - 09/17/09 - IP#: 24.216.67.xxx Wow, that sounds like a shameless commercial plug. What a ridiculous and overpriced idea.
Reply from annie, Child's Age 16 - 09/06/09 - IP#: 98.150.244.xxx Go to www.quantumscale.com. The website says it's only available by mail order and quotes a price of $89.
Reply from Evelyn, Child's Age 14 - 09/06/09 - IP#: 24.67.56.xxx Wow, that sounds like a great idea. I have a 14 year old daughter who is very apprehensive about stepping on a scale- she says she feels shame when she sees her weight. This scale sounds like it would really help with this kind of anxiety and help her to stay motivated with eating habits and staying active. Where can we purchase one of these scales from?
