I am starting to get really worried about my 10 year old son. He is 10 and weighs almost 150. Family on my side and his Fathers side has zero weight issues what so ever. My son was borderline under weight until he was about 8 years old but in the last 16 months he has doubled his weight... that's 75 lbs in 16 months!! He plays sports (Baseball and Lacrosse and really wants to play football and hockey) Last month I insisted that his thyroid be tested but everything came back fine. We eat well balanced meals, he gets exercise and has a good bill of health... What am I missing? What could possibly be going on with my boy? Please any suggestions or comments will be appreciated greatly!!

my 15 year old daughter has been struggling with weight for years. She is very active and plays 3 sports and watches what she eats. she drinks no sugary drinks, no desserts, very low fat and calories. she is actually way under the recommended amount of calories per day. she is 5'10 and weighs 200 lbs. no history of weight issues on either side of family. we are an extremely active and healthy eating family. IT MAKES NO SENSE!

Cathy, I am sitting here combing the internet for help! Your situation is very similar to mine! I took my son to the doctor a year ago, insisting he MUST have a thyroid issue because he plays tackle football, with (3) 2 hour strenuous practices/games a week, plus playing with neighbors in the street. We also eat pretty healthy and have ZERO sugary treats/desserts in the house and only water and milk to drink! All his tests came back normal and was referred to a cardiologist, where I brought a food/activity log I had been keeping and the doctor literally had no advice for me! She quickly tucked away the "Childhood Obesity" pamphlets containing tips of REDUCING the amount of soda and treats to "one a day"???? WHAT? He has NONE! .... Now a year later, my son has continued to gain weight (weighing about 175 at 5'2"). I'm lost! I know you wrote on this board for help, but I connected so much with what you wrote!! :-(

Hi Cathy, your son is probably going through his growth spurt. Kids grow out before they grow up haha! I would not worry too much about it unless he is showing physical affects due to his weight such as tiredness. But, he seems healthy and active through his sports so, I think he will be fine, just dont let him give it up.
