Just an update on my 2 boys. They both started school last week, Leo in 7th grade and Lane in 6th. At their physicals last week, Leo is 63" and weighs 200 and Lane is 56" and weighs 206. We were referred to the Pediatric Obesity Clinic near us because even though Leo has lost weight, he is still very heavy and Lane has just...
Reply from Janis, Child's Age 14 - 11/14/19 - IP#: 72.235.193.xxx Jesse, I feel so bad for you and Lane. Have you considered grief counseling? There are groups for parents who have lost children and for kids who have lost important people in their lives. Perhaps when you go to the Obesity Clinic they can refer you to groups? Re=reading your past posts, it sounds like a lot of your activities with your sons has revolved around food, cooking, baking, and eating. There's a lot you and Lane can do together that is more healthy. Reading that Lane is so fat now he can't bend over to tie his shoes worries me.
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 11 - 11/10/19 - IP#: 174.239.5.xxx ...they were so much alike, and Lane just idolized his older brother. My friend who I asked for advice told me Lane and I both are eating our feelings and to give it time but it can't go on like this. He can't even tie his shoes now his belly is so big. Please, I need advice for both of us.Thanks.
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 11 - 11/10/19 - IP#: 174.239.5.xxx ...appointment at the Pediatric Obesity Clinic next Friday. We weighed ourselves this a.m. and Lane is 217, up 11 pounds in 2 months. (I've gained too.) I'm trying to be strong for Lane but Leo is always on my mind so I can only guess how hard it is for Lane. Everyone called the boys "twins" because...
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 11 - 11/10/19 - IP#: 174.239.5.xxx ..get him to stop for hours, finally he just cried himself out. He won't talk about Leo. It's hard for me too but I feel for Lane. His school says he's doing fine there but at home he doesn't want to do anything except play video games. He doesn't want to do anything unless I'm with him. We have the...
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 11 - 11/10/19 - IP#: 174.239.5.xxx Thanks Dave and Janis and everyone, things seemed to be going pretty well. Then yesterday, the weather here suddenly turned very cold,18°, and Lane's winter jacket from last year is way to small so I got out Leo's jacket from last year. Lane took one look and started crying. I couldn't....

Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 11 - 10/20/19 - IP#: 174.239.5.xxx Thank you, Janis. Leo's funeral was yesterday. He's with his mom now. Everyone has been so supportive, especially the boys' school . It's been very hard for Lane because the 2 boys were very close. My wife's cousin is staying with us which is helping too. We're all trying to get on with life.
Reply from Janis, Child's Age 14 - 10/16/19 - IP#: 72.235.193.xxx Hello Jesse, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your other son. As a mom I can only imagine how you must feel right now. Please let us know how you're doing.
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 12 - 10/11/19 - IP#: 174.239.0.xxx I'm sorry to tell you that my son Leo passed away last week. He was sick for five days with what he doctor said was gastroenteritis. Finally he got so sick I took him to the ER and they operated on him but his appendix had burst. He was such a good boy.

Reply from Randy, Child's Age 15 - 09/25/19 - IP#: 212.71.254.xxx Jesse, the issue is that you enable them, especially Lane. An 11-12 year old boy should not weigh 206 pounds. He’s not just a little kid who has a big appetite, he’s severely morbidly obese. His BMI is the equivalent of someone who is 5’9 and 310-315 pounds. That’s too much, and especially for such a young child. I read what he eats for lunch. He doesn’t need 3 sandwiches for lunch every day, nor does he need to be gorging on sweets at home 24/7. You’re in control of what he eats. Stop buying junk. If he wants to cry then let him cry. He’s not gonna starve if he eats 3 balanced meals a day. The fact that you have to go to DXL to find clothes for him to fit isn’t good. At this rate he’ll be 230 pounds by the end of the year. Try and stop feeding him junk and get him to exercise.

I've made an effort not to buy chips and other junk food, but Lane when hungry will make sandwiches for himself. He loves milk (I don't buy soda).

At mealtimes he eats the most of us three, piles his plate high with food, digs in, and eats seconds and third. All this just started a couple of years ago. He was chunky with a good appetite but now eating and food are his main interests. When I pick him up after...
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 12 - 09/19/19 - IP#: 174.239.32.xxx Sarah, gaining so much weight has made Lane less active. He tires easily when we go walking and his legs, hips and rear end are so big he waddles now which must be uncomfortable for him but he doesn't complain. He always goes walking with me when I suggest it but when we get home he heads right to..
Reply from Sarah, Child's Age 12 - 09/18/19 - IP#: 39.44.126.xxx Jesse, I know it must be hard, the fact that he outweighs his brother who is taller is a bit hard. Have you noticed any changes in your younger one, do you think it's just laziness and lack of exercise or does he make any effort to not gain?Has he been having difficulty since gaining this much?
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 12 - 09/14/19 - IP#: 174.239.32.xxx ...find the right size. He's huge and I noticed people at the store staring at him, made me so angry. He's just a little kid who's going through a stage where he's got a huge appetite.
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 12 - 09/14/19 - IP#: 174.239.32.xxx Thanks Sandra. I got an email yesterday scheduling our appointment at the Obesity Clinic for Nov. 15. In the meanwhile I'm so worried about my boy Lane. He was wearing my clothes for a while but now they're too small for him (shorts to wear to schopl). Had to take him to DHL this morning to...
Reply from Sandra, Child's Age 16 - 09/13/19 - IP#: 94.12.27.xxx I know that it is hard but its best to try to help your boys now and teach them healthy ways my daughter is overweight and i have also gained weight but as far as the obesity clinic goes it may be helpful even if you just get it through to your sons that they need to be healthier!
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 12 - 09/11/19 - IP#: 174.239.30.xxx Do any of you parents have experience with a clinic like that, Our doctor told me the boys are so seriously overweight he was making the referral even though currently they're healthy. Lane is still 10, doesn't turn 11 for another month and he's 206. I had no idea he's THAT heavy.
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 12 - 09/11/19 - IP#: 174.239.30.xxx ,,,ballooned during the summer. His BMI is 46. I feel guilty because last summer Lane and I were home together all day and we spent a lot of time cooking and baking. I put on weight this summer too but our home scale was broken so I had no idea just how much we gained.
