Hi everyone, I’m concerned about my son Adrian. We saw the doctor today and he’s 275 pounds at 5’10. He was always a chubby kid but this year in particular he was looking very heavy. I knew that he was in the low 200’s this time last year so this is a lot of weight to gain in a year. He is eating loads more compared to the past, he often eats seconds and thirds during supper and when school was in session he would stop at the store and buy junk on his way home. I’ve encouraged him to eat less and move more, but there was always a level of resistance with exercise and he has spent this quarantine on the couch doing online school, playing video games and eating non-stop. If I buy less junk food from the market he will go out more and buy junk food. I asked him about his weight on the drive home and he brushed it off. It is very evident that he let himself go physically and I do not know what else to do.

His father is disappointed that his weight was this much so I think he feels ashamed but he never said anything about it. does Adrian ever bring it up to you or are you always the first? He's brother used to eat some unhealthy but lost weights and ate healthy after the military and he's dad and I don't eat outside the house very much. I have found food under his bed and in his desk when I clean his room but I didn't know how to tell him and alot of time pass so I never said anything. Does Adrian seem embarrassed or insecure at all? Jeongguk hate to order food in front of us but Adrian seems to just do it anyway.

I think the only chairs Adrian gets weary about are the one with arms, he is very wide. Has your son said anything when he weighed in at 304 pounds? I recall you saying he was about 270 which is quite a difference. Do you all eat a lot of fast food? He has to be gaining the weight somehow. We try not to eat a lot of fast food but he gets a free meal with work and I’m sure he’s getting food whenever he goes out. It’s just concerning to see him eating so much now, it’s like a constant stream of candy, chips, crisps, soda and other junk food - he is always grazing on some kind of food. He just doesn’t listen to me. If I buy diet soda he’ll go out and buy regular soda for himself, or he’ll order more food when I say I’m not getting junk for dinner.
Reply from Seongwha, Child's Age 18 - 07/24/20 - IP#: 173.79.71.xxx He gets out of breathe easily on stairs, he has hard time bending down to tie his shoes and he seems insecure in places where seats might not be big enough lately. I try not to think about what he eats these days but it is usually a lot of cereal, in our house there is always rice, vegetables, meat. The most unhealthy thing we have at our house is instant ramyeon which he eats alot of. He works so he buys his own food that I know he will hide and same as Adrian doesn't move enough. What kind of snacks does Adrian eat all day and does he Make his own meals at home?
Reply from Justin, Child's Age 17 - 07/22/20 - IP#: 81.92.203.xxx Seongwha, 304 pounds is alarming! Does he have any difficulties moving around with his weight? What is he eating in a day? Adrian pretty much snacks all day and does not move unless he goes to work. He works fast food and I know he eats while there.
Reply from Seongwha, Child's Age 18 - 07/22/20 - IP#: 108.51.163.xxx My son was always a chubby kid like yours and I thought he would grow out of it, and since he's older brother ate a lot as a teenager I used to not worry. But near when he turned 14 he starting eating more than I thought was possible ^^ I just ask because kids usually pick up the habits from their friends so I wondered if that was the case. Jeongguk... has unfortunately not stopped growing during the isolation. He told me he wanted be nice to be back to 250 before the school year starts even though he never had a plan, but he went to the doctor because he has asthma and he weighed at 304 (he is about 6 feet). your son seem very stubborn(?) to talk about his weights. mine will talk but he never changes his habits
Reply from Justin, Child's Age 17 - 07/21/20 - IP#: 81.92.203.xxx He does have some friends who eat a lot, but almost all teenage boys appear to eat a lot. I’m not the healthiest eater but it is more along the lines of small portions of bad choices, not junk all day long. I’ve told him that I’m concerned about his weight but he blows me off. I see that he has to catch his breath when going up stairs, or his car is a smaller fit than before and he’s outgrowing his clothes and it is concerning. Seongwha, how is your son doing? How large is he now?
Reply from Seongwha, Child's Age 18 - 07/09/20 - IP#: 108.51.163.xxx Hello Justin, sorry to hear about your situation. Do you know if your son has friends with same habits as him, or maybe someone in the family that he got them from? with my son he is the biggest of his friends but I think they all eat badly and we eat very healthy at home so I know where he gets it from. Also when you talk to him about his weights what do you say?
Reply from Justin, Child's Age 17 - 07/09/20 - IP#: 81.92.203.xxx Jesse, Adrian is 17 and has a job at McDonalds. That’s where he gets the money from. He will get free food at work and then use the money to buy junk food. The doctor did tell him that he needed to shed some weight but Adrian blew him off. Jesse, how is your son doing? I read a few past posts and it’s troubling hearing how quickly he is spiraling into morbid obesity at his age. He’s 12? so much easier to control eating in comparison to an independent 17 year old!
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 11 - 07/08/20 - IP#: 174.239.5.xxx Also, did the doctor say anything to your son about his size when he weighed in at 275 at his physical? Even though you've tried to talk to him, if the doctor said nothing it's easier for your son to ignore you if the doctor didn't bring the matter up.
Reply from Jesse, Child's Age 11 - 07/08/20 - IP#: 174.239.5.xxx I was wondering, Justin, you mentioned that Adrian buys more junk food when you try to buy less. Where does he get the money to do this?
