I know it says I'm the parent, but the sixteen-year-old is actually me, and mg name is Evette. I'm fifteen, 5'2", and 137 pounds. I've always liked to thinknof myself as a pretty girls, but is it possible to be pretty AND fat at the same time??? I don't think so. My Dad says he's embarassed to be my father because I'm so fat. He says he's ashamed that I'm going to the college he wen to. He says things like "your arm looks as big as my thigh!" And "you look like you weigh 150 pounds. I want to change, but I eat for comfort and when I'm afraid. Help!

You are fine and beautiful the way you are. Secondly, and this may be hard to hear, but your Dad is a jerk. He should not say those kinds of things to you even if it were true which it isn't. Frankly, with that type of parental reinforcement, I am surprised you aren't 200+ lbs. But your father likely got his parenting style from his parents and is just parroting what he was taught. Time for you to break the cycle. I would encourage you to get into some therapy - talk to a school guidance counselor, your doctor, your pastor, etc. - to discuss the relationship with your father and how it can improve. Hopefully your father can join in at some point, but if not go for yourself. If you do have a mild issue with food, it will help. But more importantly, it will help improve your self esteem and realize your full potential which is limitless. Best of luck to you.
