Here kids talk about getting through the bad cravings, when they stop a food that they are hooked on.  The bad cravings usually last only a couple of weeks, and then mostly go away, as long as the kids don't get hooked on a new food.

Just wanted to say I lost 50 pounds so far. Just eating better and excersizing at least 45 minutes a day...I'm about 6'2 and I know weigh about 188 pounds... The hardest part of any diet is the start....the transition from no excersize to moderate excersize, and the cutting down of food can be tough. After about 3 weeks though of really keeping at it, your body will kick-start into weight loss mode. It will be easier to eat less, easier to excersize... After that, it's just keeping up your diet and watching the pounds go away...

From Heather, Age 15, female - 4/11/06 - IP#: 216.78.87.xxxwell..... i was 14 years old, like 5'6 and 222 pounds. in 8 months i lost 70 pounds. i still cant believe it.  after the first three days of cutting calories and meal portions your stomach will be adjusted so its really not all that hard as we all think it is.

I'm 5'2" and 7 months ago I weighed roughly 140. I cut calories dramatically by eating smaller portions and only drinking water (lots), tea, or coffee. Today I have surpassed my goal weight of 120 and am now a healthy 110. Dieting is hard at first, but you get used to it.

I remember i was in 7th grade and i was 5'2 about 145-150.. You just have to really stay motivated, it is hard for the first week or so. But then your body adapts to it, and it isn't as tough anymore. I am going to keep dieting for another 2 to 3 weeks i want to be down to 127-128 by New Years. Just keep working hard at it.

I just want to share with you my storey about how hard it is losing weight, and trying to keep it off. I stared putting on my weight since I was about 4 years old now i am 15, and weighing 265 pounds. I just started my diet… I never though it would be so hard. During this pass week I have been tempted so many time to eat food that was not good for me, but I stuck it out and made it through. I have been eating a lot of fruits and salads and also i have been excirsing, but the most important thing i have been doing is drinking alot of water and very pround to say i have lost 1 pound. When i lost that pound it made me feel very good about my self, and showed me that i can lose weight and that its going to be hard but i can do it.

Hi! I... I ended up at 5'5" and 165 pounds.... What I did was restrict all snacks. I used to eat cubes of cheese and drink milk in the afternoon... no more. Whenever Mom came home with Little Debbie cakes, I took one but stored it in the freezer instead of eating it. That way I felt like I wasn't missing out. I ate 3 meals a day, but never had seconds. I also never ever ate desserts or sweet things, except for fruits. The longer you go without cake and ice cream, the less you will want to eat them. Well, I lost 20 pounds in one summer, without exercizing, ... Later on when I got older, I lost 20 more pounds, and now I weigh a slim 120…

It was about a month ago I was at my highest wieght of 190 pounds, I could breath properly and my enery was really low. So the first thing I did was changed the way I was thinking, instead of going on a diet I would change the things would eat...The body needs everything but in MODERATION.....so I started just exercising twice a week and increase my fruits and vegetables. I know It's usually hard the first couple of weeks because the body is not use to such a dramatic change...but I stuck with it and now it's been a month and a half and I lost 15 pouds. HEY… stick to it, YOU will feel better in the long run...DON"T GIVE UP....when your down think of all the good things you want to achieve...AND FIND SUPPORTERS TO HELP ENCOURAGE NOT DISCOURAGE YOU...MOST AF ALL HAVE FAITH AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

It really stinks being overweight for many different reasons but one big thing is not having a boyfriend, but someday i will. Right now i wear about an 16 to 18 in jeans and i plan to get to a 10 or 12... when i get down and am about ready to give up i think of getting into that size ten or twelve pair of jeans, I also want to lose the weight to show people that it is possible and to be a role model for people my age to lose weight and show them that's it's not easy especially the first few weeks but it does get alot easier when you see your results.

I weighted 140 lbs. Not much huh? But I am 5'3''... It was so hard to loose the weight though. I would get so many chocolate temptations, but after a while I didnt... I finally got to my goal of 120! When ever I got a craving for something I'd say to myself, "It will taste good for a few seconds, then once its done it won't." And that actuilly worked and helped me put down a lot of food!

I had always been overweight for as long as I can remember,… I procrastinated constantly, saying "I'll go on a diet tomorrow..." and other things to that effect. I was a compulsive overeater, and very ashamed of the way I looked. By my sophomore year of high school, I weighed almost 270 pounds, and I probably wore about a size 24 (I am 5'9" tall). ..a month before my 16th birthday, something hit me and I decided I didn't want to be fat anymore. I started slowly… trying to cut out most sweets. I would still have a piece of cake or something once or twice a week, but was eventually able to cut sweets out almost altogether. I gradually stopped eating fried foods completely, and now just the thought of them grosses me out. I'll occasionally have a cookie or a little bit of ice cream, but usually the guilt I feel afterwards makes it not even worth it. ..right now I weigh 130 pounds, for a total weight loss of 140 pounds!

I am a very short person…as of last year that people were calling me chubby… I …watched what I ate,.. I gave up ALL sweets. I never thought I could do it, but I did... After a few weeks, my 5' 1'' body was down from 132 to 125... after a while, your body will stop craving sweets. *…! *CUT OUT SWEETS! *Love yourself!

... I am eating healthy and excercising and, you know what? I like it. I dont really want the unhealthy food anymore and can refuse it when it is offered... I had a lot of problems at first but just tell yourself that although being lazy or eating that cake will make you feel good now, you will hate yourself later...

Here is a reply to another teen, who was struggling to lose weight and resist cravings…

Reply from Motivated, Age 19 - 7/17/08 - IP#: 71.192.26.xxx   bigbb-c85784 sugar and over eating is an addiction, so, you need to treat it like an addiction- you need to stop the physical part by dealing with the mentality behind the addiction. work on your issues with food. meditate on it. also, the addiction is physical- your body is used to getting fed so many calories and so much sugar and processed foods. you need to cut back on all of the very sugary, processed foods and fight through the cravings- they will subside after some time. even two weeks of a strict, no processed-sugar diet will do wonders for not only your weight, but your physical addiction to food, and also build your self-confidence in your ability to take care of yourself and get your life under control. you can do this. you will do this. take it one mouthful at a time, remmebering that each bite counts, and you WILL succeed!
