Continued from Isabella, Age 13 - 9/16/06 - IP#: 68.84.74.xxx tbb-c15734 ALso, thee are such a thing as GOOD FATS!!!! THEY'RE CALLED MONSATURATED AND POLUNSATURATED fats!! Avacado, nuts olive oil and peanut butter ARE LOADED if you eat aserving of each: 1 TBSP olive oil, 1-2 TBSP peanut butter (always looke on labels for specifics), 1 avacado, and i handful of nuts. Now, bad fats to looke out for on food labels are trans and saturated fats, which clog your heart. Now, don't freak out and scream if you buy a frozen meal and find a few grams or either. My rule of thumb is that the total grams of BOTH sat. and transa fat ADDED TOFETHER should be half of or less than thr prducts total fat. For ex., f you but a meal with 10g of fat, and then there are 3g of transa fat and 2 of sat. fat, that's okay becuase that's less than 5g of fat added together. Usually poly. and mon. fats aren't listed just becuase they make up the rest of that 10g of fat. Also, try not to eat a lot of added suagr and salt in foods. So...the burning question...junk food!! Okay, realx. There are plenty of smart options, lie baked chips, salsa, 100 cl pacls, etc. that I'm sure you've seen everywhere. Now you can eat these, but i recommend that only on the weekends as like atreat, simply becuase they'ye what you call "empty calories", things that take up cals. butndon't give you a lot of nutrition in return. Personally, I prefer to have and indulgence as a desert or something. BUt if you absoulty can't give up these snacks, (most of which can be replaced by fruits and veggies) than make smart choices and don't feel huilty, you're growing and if you don't eat a lot just a small teat each day you'll be helahjty. Now a few more things. As far as soda/diet soda is concerned, this is one thing that's a complete junkfood and should be avoided whenever possible!! Everything's completelty articifical, plus apsrstie and other artficial sweetner (like Splends, Equal, Sweetn' Low) are actually bad for you. SO I suggest staying away from them and having a little real sugar instead/ Soda is worthless, plus too much will cuase bloating and cellutlate and girls who plays sports that constantly drink soda are 5x more like to have bone fractures. SO save soda as a treat. Drink lowfat milk, water or seltzer, and unsweetned jiuce instead. Ome last thing is exercise...doesn't eman you goota work out and lift weights, which are bad for young girls and teens! JUst have fun for at least 30 min, a day by bike riding. dancing, swimming, etc. ONe last thing,,,realisitc body images and goals. GOt o your doc to tlak about those, and be happy as you are! :0) SO that's all I have, read Isabella's Story in the My Story section for a little more advice and good like. Remember, you're not on adiet. You're slowly changin your lif style, which means better food and treats you can really enjoy. Here's my meal plan sample: Brealfast: 1 bowl of low-suagr cereal, oatmeal, etc. with a peach/Snack: pudding and Goldfish/Lunch: veggie soup with serving of whoel grain craackers, milk, apple/Snack: yogurt adn cereal bar/Dinner" grilled chicken and a salad, bake potato, water/Dessert: afew gingersnap cookies, 3 Hershey kisses, Weight Watchers desert, a sqare of dark chocolate, frozen yougrt, you know, something like that. So mix and match. find mroe recipes and have fun with what you eat! Lots of love,Isabella |
