GREAT! & you can do it! I used to weigh 237lbs...and I found that at that time the most helpful thing for me was setting small goals. So instead of thinking, "I want to lose 100lbs" just think to yourself, "I want to lose 5lbs"! This is a much more manageable goal and you'll feel ecouraged when you get to it, then just keep at it in 5lb increments. Eventually you'll get down to where you want to be. Also, as I tell everyone, remember that everything counts...walking instead of driving, drinking water instead of pop/juice or skipping dessert...they all will lead to weight loss eventually. (in the same way remember that it works oppositely as well...everytime you choose the pop or drive it adds unneeded calories). Good luck...YOU CAN DO IT!

I am sorry You are beautiful no matter what I have noticed that if you take the temption out of your house its easier to cope because its just not there Also exercise may seem hard but you can try just small steps Like walking home it may seem hard but it will get easier and easier or just going up and down stairs a few times I know it sounds hard but the more you try the easier it will get and the less you try the harder it will get Remember that you should only be doing this for you If none of that floats your boat just dance or do stuff you enjoy

Hey everyone in these past 8 months i have lost 30 pounds! I did it by doing a few things 1- i joined basketball which was right after school... when i ate the most. by doing basketball i had something to do and it was good excersise! 2- i cut out soda and put in water and milk what i mean by this is i used to drink 4 sodas a day and now i only drink one unless i have a sleepover and need to stay up late:) 3- i chewed orbit. lol ok so whenever i got hungry or wanted food i didn't need i would just chew gum. it actually helped! 4- i never ate unless i was REALLY hungry ur stomach will not tell u wrong if ur hungry eat when ur not stop if u have a lot of food in front of u don't eat it all bcuz ur bored... eat until u r satisfied and finally... 5- eat lots of fibers, whole grains, fruits and veggies all that good stuff!

Hi Natalie, Im around the same height as you and used to not be the 'slimest' person ever either, and i'm still not, but now im a healthy body weight (135lbs). What I did: 1)I started by walking to school (if your school is far away, try walking home instead so you arent late), 2)eating less junk food (aka McDonalds, Soda, Chips...), 3) I started going to my local gym every second day with my friend after school, 4) I began to go on hikes with my parents or friends on the weekends. 5) Once I felt more comfortable I joined some sports, 6) I took my dog for walks in the evening after dinner (if you dont have a dog, ask one of your parents to go with you for company). Slowly I began to lose the weight, though it takes ALOT of effort. Once you are finished though, you dont only look better (not saying you look bad), you also feel better. I really hope you can reach your goal of 140lbs! And I hope you will take my advice and work with it! Wishing you luck! -Tracey :)

Hey, look at it this way. The hotter the air around you, the more you swaet, the easier you lose weight. You can literally ust sit there and be burning quite a few calories. SO! To avoid reversing taht process, do NOT over-eat. And too much ice cream is a no-no. Not only cause too much is fattening, but more importantly, because most have other ingredients taht aren't all that healthy, such as synthesized gum and colour additives, and flavour additives. I know it's real hot. Try to look towards otehr alternatives. Freeze yogourt. Still really good, can get different flavours and very healthy. Or, make a banana or strawberry or fruit smoothie, and add ice. Or just freeze the entire thing as a makeshift freezie. Another alternative is plain, ice cold water. G'Luck! Dno't give up..;

The main thing (and the hardest!) you'll have to work on is your willpower - mind over matter and all that =). Seriously, I've been on countless diets, lifestyle changes (both healthy and unhealthy), etc. and, now that I'm finally losing and keeping the weight off, I've come to a realization: I really have to want to lose the weight in my MIND. If you're head's not in the game, it's pretty hard to get anywhere. When I initially began losing the weight, I'd have to consciously think about what I weighed and how fat and ugly I felt - like, 24/7 I thought about that. And I know it sounds terrible to only think bad things about yourself (and in retrospect, it probably was), but honestly, being really tough on myself all the time was the only way I knew how to break through the initial 'I don't want to diet because food is too awesome!' way of thinking. And once I broke through that mind barrier - and believe me, it took a few months - I found that I didn't WANT to eat unconsciously, or just because I was bored, angry, sad, whatever. As for actual tips until you get to that point I mentioned, I would suggest getting out of the house as much as often. If you're going to the beach with friends, or taking up a new summer sport, you won't have time to rummage through the cupboards/fridge for things to satisfy your cravings. Also, drinking a lot of water may help, since you're stomach will feel fuller. Setting rules such as you can only eat at the dinner table, off of an actual plate, with no tv/book/distractions around might help because really, eating that way is boring so you're less likely to do it if that's the only way to get food in your stomach. I could probably think up a ton more if you gave me enough time, but this is already turning into a small novel =). If you're interested in chatting via e-mail or IM though, let me know. (view less)

Hi Amanda. It sounds like you're in a pretty tough situation and believe me, I feel for you. It's hard being overweight and you're right, carrying around an extra 200 pounds on your bodyframe isn't something your body was meant to do. Here's the thing though: whether you realize it or not, you DO have willpower. You think you don't, but honestly, that's just because you probably haven't been working on building it up. At this point, for your health and well-being, you NEED to lose weight. Forget the body image issues everyone has...that much extra weight has to be strenuous on your body and that in turn can potentially cause serious health issues for you. I'm sure you've seen enough articles/posts/whatever on foods you should eat and exercises you should perform to lose weight so I'm not even going to go into any of that. I'm sure you've seen enough articles/posts/whatever on foods you should eat and exercises you should perform to lose weight so I'm not even going to go into any of that. What I would like to say though, is that you really, really need to start building up your willpower muscle (yes, I'd view it as a muscle). In order to do that, you're going to need to take baby steps and work your way up slowly. For instance, say you like to drink sodas every day. Use your willpower to say to yourself 'for one week, I will replace the amount of soda I'd normally drink with water'. That way you 1. have an end in sight (ie: one week) and 2. you're starting to 'work out' that muscle. I'd say the problem most people have with willpower is that they tend to try and resist EVERYTHING all at once. You can't do that - that's like trying to run a marathon when you're just learning to walk - you're going to fall down, hard. Just focus on one thing at a time. Try something like what I put above and don't stress about the fact that you may be giving in to all of your other cravings during that time because eventually, as your willpower gets stronger with each new challenge you present it with, you'll be less likely to give into those cravings all of the time. Good luck honey. Don't give up!!! (view less)

Don't go on a diet. Make little lifestyle changes. You need to do something you'll be able to stick with for your whole life if you want to keep the results! Small portions, move as much as you can (like walking or biking to school, for example), and eat slowly -- savor every bite! Also, eat until you don't feel hungry anymore, not until you're stuffed. Then you will be hungry for the next meal, but you won't have that awful stuffed, tired feeling that comes after eating a lot (think Thanksgiving). As for the exercise, don't try to push yourself to do something you can't. For example, if you can't go to the gym for an hour every day, don't. Just move more than you do currently. If you normally drive to school, walk instead, and you'll immediately start feeling better and losing weight. And it will give you energy to want to move more. Just make tiny little tweaks, and stick with them. Don't try to lose more than about two pounds a week. I have the same problem where I have to eat everything on my plate, even if I am full. What I try to do now is put my fork down when I start getting full and decide if I want a little more. If I do, then I eat a little more. If I don't, then I cover my food with a napkin. If I can't see it, then I don't feel like I have to eat it. If that doesn't work, try pouring a little water on your plate. That way your food will taste gross so there is no point eating it. Hope that helps a little =)
