I know how you feel lol. I weigh 150 pounds, but since I'm very petite (4'11) I should weigh around 120. I keep trying to lose the weight, but like yours, my family loves junk food and stocks the house with it. It's so hard to eat healthy while the rest of your family is nomming away on sweets XD Lately my strategy is not to eat my meals with them. I eat my dinner much earlier than them so I don't have to watch them and be tempted. Give that a try. Also, if you don't wanna wake up and jog (neither do I) try doing it after school. I come home, do homework, eat dinner and then go run for half an hour. Then I relax a little till just before bed, then I do 15 minutes of intense muscle training in my room (push-ups, crunches, planks, etc.) after that i'm always so tired that I fall asleep easily XD

Hey Kate, I know what your uncle said probably really did hurt your feelings, and I'm so sorry to hear that he said that. It's rude and un-supportive! I'll try to help, but I can't do much from online, especially since I don't know you personally. First of all, don't plan on losing weight for anyone but YOURSELF. YOU are the most important here, okay? I know how it is wanting to be someone your family can be proud of, but it won't stick unless you're doing it for YOU. As for being out of breath when you climb a flight of stairs, I know a lot of people that happens to! Just take baby steps; ask your mom or dad to sign you up for a team sport, take your dog for a walk (if you have one!), or go for a walk with an older family member or your friends (if it is safe). Most importantly, remember that you are just a kid! You are much too young to be putting this much pressure on yourself, so be nice to you okay? And next time your uncle says something like that, stand up for yourself and tell him to knock it off. Hang in there!

this won't helo so much with weight loxs- but it'll sure help her attitude and mabe through that help her to decide to lose weight. get her into a really supportive environment for a summer program- not just a regualr camp but something like upward bound(not outward bound- it helps people train and get into college- helps their grades and everything and has an awqesome respect policy- i know that it really helpoed me and because my parents didn't make a lot of money i got 3 summers of it for free!and got into my top college and feel better about myself and more determined to do whatever i want to acomplish!) other then that- i think you need to just work on your relationship with your daughter- be more open with yher about things in your own life and don't punish her when she's open to you, just try to help her. show you're disapointed but happy that she tells you things. um.. another thing that might help is get a mother-daughter gym pass and work out together! good luck!

Don't listen to him a lot of people will say a lot of mean things but it's not always your fault they probally don't have anything else better to do so they think they can just pick on people but they can't plus if it's your brother tell him how it hurts your feelings.

Try telling your family about your goals honestly regarding weight loss and that it will really help you if they buy healthy snack food like fruits and veggies in addition to or instead of junk. Tell them you are trying to reach a weight loss goal and I'm sure they will be happy to help you out. At least you will have choices then. You will choose what to eat and that is part of a healthy life-style change. Good luck.

Hi. I am writing about my 11-year-old son. We will call him "Alex." I'm hoping maybe you guys can help me. I need to get through to Alex about losing weight. He cries all the time because the other kids make fun of him. He wants to lose weight, but can't resist snacking. And I know I'm at fault: I work at night and can't be with him at school, so he eats all the time and I'm not there to check the situation. NOW... I don't want to NAG him. (My mom used to nag me about practicing piano, so I quit, and now I'm sorry.) What could I say that will motivate him? What could someone say to you that would help you? I love him so much and don't want to make him feel bad, but he feels bad enough already. Alex is a great kid. He's a good student. He's just so unhappy. Thanks everyone! I appreciate your input!

The best thing i think to do is to exercise with him or play some games to make it fun. And when you guyse eat, just have him eat half of what he'd normally eat.

Yeah I know you don't want to deprive your other kids but don't let them have anything special in front of him and not let him eat it becuase that will make him feel bad too. *rach*

Wow! You sound like my father! We almost have the same problem. My little sister is also unhappy about her weight. She isnt "fat" or anything, but she is chuby and her friends are all really thin and she hates it. My father also works at night and can't watch what she eats because he's mostly sleeping all the time. But I do try to help her not eat junk foods, and instead eat healthier foods. Like fruits and veggys. She's been eating really good lately, so she lost about 5 pounds! I think your son needs to learn what to eat. And dont buy junk foods. He eats them because you have them in your house. Get rid of it! And when he learns to like and eat healthier foods, he'll lose weight. He could also join sports! That I think is the number one way to lose weight. Excersize! lol ok well I hope I helped! Good luck! -Mar P.S- explain to your son why is it important to lose weight and be healthy- and how being overweight is bad for you health.

first you need to let your parents know and ask them to help you by not buying junk food and cooking healthy food so that you have no excuse for eating junk food. to eat three healthy meals a day. And you can have health snacks which could be an apple, yogurts, and you should try to cut as much junkfood out of your diet as possible and drink at least 7-8 glasses of water a day
