I went vegan, ate less and healthier, and I ran over a mile daily, and then followed that by weight lifting and very long walks. But NO! I gain 4 pounds. And I highly doubt its the whole "muscle weighs more than fat" schpeal that everyone always tells others.

My goal this week is to really sit down and count my calories. I learned that pitas technically are one whole circle, but that the serving size is half (grrrrrrrrr) which I didnt know before. Thats probably a major cause.
Reply from Kelly, Age 17 - 04/20/08 - IP#: 144.91.48.xxx Leigh - I didn't say that it's impossible to get the right nutrition being vegan, I just said it's harder and it takes a lot more careful attention to certain nutrients. It is not necessarily healthier - it CAN be, but it depends on what choices you make. There are many bad vegan choices and many excellent non-vegan choices. I just don't think going vegan solely to lose weight is putting your energy in the right place, since being vegan doesn't guarantee weight loss and is pretty restrictive in itself. If people do it for moral reasons, then I think having to pay a little more attention is totally worth it, so Mikayla, I think it's great. Is it possible that going vegan has caused you to eat a lot more bulky fruits and vegetables? That could cause a weight gain to show up on the scale, especially if you're not weighing first thing in the morning. Or, like Leigh said, could you be eating more calories than you think? What vegan foods have you replaced your old meat/dairy foods with?

But idk it sounds like your doing everything right, the only thing i can think of is that you might be underestimating your calorie intake. I mean you can still be a vegan and be fat. Good luck though! PS- i think it's realy great that you're going vegan, it is so much better for animals, the enviorment & you. :)

Can I ask why you went vegan? My sister is vegan and it certainly never caused her to lose any weight, and I think it's pretty hard to get the right nutrition and protein as a vegan. Are you doing it for moral reasons or just for weight loss?
