well i heard some where that in order to BURN FAT u have to keep your heart rate at your target zone which is 220- your age for 20 minutes. well i do cardio for about 20-30 minutes on the eliptical and it is never up there. do i still burn fat? and i think i am burning muscle not fat, what things can i do to prevent that?

yes, u are still buring fat. chewing gum burns fat, breathing burns fat, running on an elliptical DEFINITLEY burns fat, i mean, your not training to run in the olympics or anything, pumping your heart rate up till its about to jump out of your chest isnt necessary, alothough after youve been excercising for a while, that heart pounding will become like a high for you, i t is for me your doin fine, just keep goin

if you feel that you're losing muscle eat more calories and protien

Maybe you are not doing enough? Try a more intense workout. If that still doesn't work, I don't think it matters much. Anything that gets your heart pumping during the day is better than sitting around and you will definitely still lose weight.
