The more restrictive of a diet you give yourself, the most focused you are going to end up being on food in general. The body and brain knows what you are doing to it and fights back. Try making small changes. Even if you only cut 200 calories a day from food and burn 100 through exercise, it still adds up over time. I realize many people are looking to lose as much weight as quickly as possible. Generally fast weight loss is not maintainable in the long run, however. Small changes make it something you can commit to in the long run. Eat less simple carbohydrates. Complex carbs, like those found in fruits, vegetables, beans, and oats, actually make you feel fuller longer and prevent the blood sugar spike that can cause you to feel hungry in between meals. So you don't like your veggies? Experiment with them. Melt some low-fat cheese on your broccoli. Explore seasonings. Nothing says healthy food needs to be boring.

Reply from angie, Age 15 - 08/11/05 - IP#: 24.86.11.xxx Yup, fad diets definatly do not work..believe me, i have tried all kinds of them. But over the last 3 months i have lost 10-15 pounds just by eating healthy. I DONT CUT OUT CERTAIN FOODS COMPLETELY, thats the biggest mistake of all. I simply eat only when im hungry, and try to get more fruit and vegetables into my meal. I only drink water or diet soda and i skip dessert most of the time. I still have chocolate or ice cream once in a while but once you get used to eating healthier, you get so used to it believe me..u stop thinking about all the junk food. And another tip that you have probably heard before...dont skip breakfast!! I have learnt this the hard way. Start your day with something thats filling like whole wheat toast with jam and a piece of fruit. Stick to this eating plan and be patient!! You will reach your goals with time. GOOD LUCK! this was kinda long...lol.
