From Heather, Age 18, female - 04/15/02 - IP#: 156.63.251.xxx This is an update again. I started at 162 lbs. That was a month and a half ago. After serious diet and excercise, I am now 132 lbs. It is really easy to lose weight once you decide to do it, but you cannot cheat or eat ANY fast food. My goal is 120 lbs, which is about right for a 5'6 person. I will update again when the goal is reached.
From Kels., Age 15, female - 04/13/02 - IP#: 24.245.22.xxx Last summer, the summer before I entered high school, I told my self I couldn't enter highschool fat, I couldn't. That summer I lost 20 pounds! This school year I have lost 10 pounds! (I started out 150 some pounds and only 5 ft tall, now I am 5ft2in and 123) Sure exercise, but the biggest thing is don't snack. Eat your three meals a day, skip desert and don't snack unless you are actually hungry. Every time you are going to eat something ask your self why? If it's hunger go ahead but if not skip it and start doing one of your hobbies to get your mind off food.

From Megan, Age 17, female - 03/31/02 - IP#: 32.103.211.xxx I had always been overweight for as long as I can remember, and I had always figured that some day I would lose the weight, but I procrastinated constantly, saying "I'll go on a diet tomorrow..." and other things to that effect. I was a compulsive overeater, and very ashamed of the way I looked. By my sophomore year of high school, I weighed almost 270 pounds, and I probably wore about a size 24 (I am 5'9" tall). Just after New Year's, about a month before my 16th birthday, something hit me and I decided I didn't want to be fat anymore. I started slowly, doing a mile on my Nordic Track and trying to cut out most sweets. I would still have a piece of cake or something once or twice a week, but was eventually able to cut sweets out almost altogether. I would still have a piece of cake or something once or twice a week, but was eventually able to cut sweets out almost altogether. I gradually stopped eating fried foods completely, and now just the thought of them grosses me out. I'll occasionally have a cookie or a little bit of ice cream, but usually the guilt I feel afterwards makes it not even worth it. I started eating a healthy breakfast, as opposed to not eating breakfast at all, and I always have at least 2-3 snacks a day, of various fruits, or sometimes veggies. My tastes have greatly increased, and now there are hardly any types of fruits or vegetables I don't like. Before I started my diet, I hadn't eaten red meat for almost 3 years, and I gave up meat altogether just about 3 months ago, leaving room for even more fruits and vegetables, and all kinds of beans, tofu, etc., which I actually really enjoy. I never used to eat salads, but now I eat them all the time. It's been a year and 3 months since I started my diet, and right now I weigh 130 pounds, for a total weight loss of 140 pounds! I'm so much more confident and active, and I even look forward to gym class, which I used to dread. I recently bought my first pair of size 3/4 jeans and my first size 6 dress! I even want to go to college to become a dietitian. It just goes to show that if I can do it, after hating myself and my weight for almost 16 years, anyone can. But that person has to make the decision to change all by themselves, or it won't work. You have to really want to change, but once you set your mind to it, it's not as hard as you think. (view less)
From Heather, Age 18, female - 03/29/02 - IP#: 206.222.21.xxx I started dieting a month ago because its almost summer and I'm going to be in Florida in April. I am 5'6 and started at 162 lbs, but I've lost 20 and am now at 142 lbs today. I still hope to drop another 20, especially since college is next year. The secret to success was not the greatest for me though. I've ran like 3 miles every other day, 60 situps, 50 push-ups (the girly kind), and 50 leg lifts a day. I also eat one meal a day, or at least try to and cut way back on the carbs. This probably isn't the greatest way to lose weight, even though it is effective, and I woudn't really recommend it and less you are in a time crunch to lose weight.

From Mary Kate, Age 16, female - 03/24/02 - IP#: 166.102.30.xxx As a kid I was always quite overweight. I was made fun of a lot in school. I must say my self esteem was very low. In about 7th grade I decided to start dieting. It didn't work. I could never stick with it. I really did have a food addiction. I always wanted to be able to shop in the jr's department and wear the cute LEI jeans like the other girls. I never thought this could happen because I had reached 220 lbs at the end of my freshman year. The following fall in 10th grade my mom got me some help with a personal trianer. Since October I have been working out 4 times a week and following a strict diet. I am down to 140 lbs!!!!!!!! I am a size 7/8. My closet is filled with denim mini skirts and halter tops. Taking off the weight has changed my life. I will have to say that I would like to loose at least 20 more lbs. I have recently started a intense body building program along with fat reduction supliments to get off the rest of the weight. Good luck to all those who want to loose. Congrats to those who did!
