Resisting foods |
=> How can you resist the foods you love?
=> Lucy how can i fight taking food when i have craving or am going to get something to eat?
|
Great question! With every great question, there can be many answers. Here are few that helped other kids and teens:
1.) If you are craving a food, let yourself have 3 slow bites. Before the first bite, take a few slow breaths in and out. Then, take one bite. The first bite will help the craving go away. The second will help it a little more. By the third, the craving maybe gone. Some people keep tootsie rolls or lollipops around. They are small. They are perfect to give you a few small bites of the craved food without lots of calories.
2.) Learn when you crave foods. Do you crave a certain food at a certain time of day, everyday? Do you crave sugar after school? Cravings sometimes creep in when we are bored, lonely, sad, mad, or happy. Some kids and teens keep a notebook to track when they get a craving. Then, they have certain activities to try instead.
3.) Cravings for certain foods usually last 5 to 20 minutes. The craving may feel like an ocean wave. It may start small then get really big. Once the craving feels like you can't stand it anymore, it may start to go away. Some kids and teens will train themselves to sit through the craving. Use planned activities that last 5 to 20 minutes that can occupy your mind. This may help you get through it.

How Did I Gain This Weight? |
=> How do you gain excessive weight? I weigh 237 and I'm 14. I don't know how I gained that much weight.
|
There are many reasons a person becomes too large. Many people have parents that pass the large "gene" to them. This makes them naturally bigger than most. Others eat too many calories. Still others are not active enough. Last, some people eat to cope with stress or hard times. These four reasons combine to make a person too large. Some of these things a person cannot control. A person cannot control their genes. Everyone can control how much they eat, how active they are, and how they deal with stress. What will you pick first? Good luck! |
How Little Can I Eat? |
=> If you eat little food a day will your metabalism slow down even if your eating little?? I heard it slows down if you starve yourself but what if you eat just not alot?
|
Seems like you are eager to lose weight. You realize starving yourself makes your body unhealthy. It slows down your metabolism (how your body uses food). Eating too little can do the same thing. Starving yourself or eating too little damages your body. It is called restricting. This is different from dieting or healthy eating. Healthy eating helps make your body stronger. Healthy eating means giving yourself enough calories and energy to be strong. Check out this link to find out more about how many calories you need to be healthy everyday: Calorie Capers

Every time I fail! |
=> hey lucy im over weight, and i dont know wat 2 do. everytime i start 2 eat healthy i mess up cuz im 2 lazy wat should i do?
|
Sounds like you tried many times to lose weight. I read that you called yourself "lazy." I do not think you are lazy. I think all the things you have tried to lose weight have failed you. I want you to take the blame away from you. You are not lazy! You are strong and you are brave. Believing in yourself is very important to help make your body healthier.
To start living healthier, start with one change. Pick ONE thing about how you eat you would like to change. Maybe try to drink more water. Or, maybe try to eat breakfast everyday. Picking one thing to work on at a time can make you be more successful. Come to the chat room or bulletin boards to find support. You will get there! We believe in you! |
I gained weight while depressed! |
=> i was never an overweight person. i was always at a decent weight and never worried at all about my weight. i was on medication for depression for a while and i gained about 50 lbs in a year just by over eating. im off my medication because im feeling happy and great now, but im stressed out about my weight. would you have any tips or suggestions on how to lose my weight? a year ago i weighed 155lbs and now i weight 200lbs. i would love to lose about 25lbs of that.
|
First, I am happy that you had the courage to face your depression. I am glad to hear you feel you have overcome that hurdle. Many medicines that help people feel less sad also promote weight gain. To help your body feel as healthy as your mind, try adding exercise to your dailly life. The exercise will help your body use stored extra energy. It can help you lose weight. Also, you can use exercise as another tool to keep your depression away. Like the medicine you took for awhile, exercise can help you feel more positive. It can help you feel stronger in body and mind. Choose cardiovascular exercise. This type gets your heart beating faster. It burns stored body fat. Try walking, biking, running, dancing, swimming, hiking, jumping, and many more! Good luck! |

Losing weight will help your body use glucose (or blood sugar) more like it should. Losing weight is a little more complicated when you have diabetes. It does not have to be harder. With diabetes, a person needs to eat regular meals, drink plenty of fluids, and eat a consistent amount of carbohydrates. Also, a person with diabetes needs to be more physically active to help her blood sugar. Does this sound much different any other person trying to lose weight? Probably not. The biggest difference between you and another person trying to lose weight without diabetes is that you can be even more harmed by fad diets.
Consider meeting with a registered dietitian who is also a Certified Diabetes Educator. This person can help you lose weight while controlling your blood sugar. You can find one near you by clicking here and clicking on the "Find a Nutrition Professional" link. Good luck! |

It is hard to lose weight when you believe what the bullies say. Sounds like the teasing has gotten under your skin. You are giving the bullies more power by keeping their words in your head. Also, believing you are not smart keeps you from believing you can lose weight. I KNOW you can eat healthier to lose weight. In order to lose weight, you need to believe in yourself. This includes realizing you are NOT stupid. Check out some of these links that help kids and teens think more positively:

Sounds like you deperately want to lose weight yet the food is getting the most of you! How frustrating that must be for you. Help! I have gained the weight back! |
=> I use to get help from a newtristionist And the program ended. During the program I lost 16lbs.I have gained 10lbs.What should I do?My dad his hounding me to lose weight but I need HELP!
|
Sounds like working with a nutritionist helped you be healthier. Also, you called it a program, so I am wondering if that means you got support from others going through the same thing. A few suggestions:
1.) Consider asking your father if you could check in with the nutritionist again. Some nutritionists charge a small fee for a shorter visit. Maybe you could go meet with your nutritionist for 30 minutes every month. Maybe this person can keep help you stay motivated. She can also help you with your food choices.
2.) I wonder if having the support of the program helped you. Many kids and teens say support helps them more than anything else. Check to see if you have a teen weight loss support group in your area. Also, consider checking out the chat room and bulletin boards on this site. There you can find virtual support. This support may help you stay on track with your weight loss goals.
3.) Did you keep any information from the nutritionist? Was there anything about the program you could do again? Consider following the program with your parents or a friend. Good luck! |
