Hello. I have been looking for a site like this for awhile. My son Tyler who is 13 gained over 25 pounds durning quarantine, starting off at being 4’11 and 83 pounds. He went all virtual last year and was at home all day. He hadn’t been dressing up or anything, so by wearing pajamas all day it was hard to tell he had put on any weight. It was two months ago when I realized how big he had gotten. You see, during covid I did notice that he was starting to fill out his clothes, but I just figured it was growing, though he only grew an inch. Anyways, i noticed his weight two months ago when I got a new job. I was able to be at home for more of the day. I started to realize how wide his body had gotten, especially his legs. He had on a fairly old pair of clothes and they barely fit him. The shirt couldn’t fit over him and left a gap around his waist, where you could see how big his love handles had gotten. His belly shook when he walked. I was so shocked. I don’t know what to do and how to say it to him. Please help me

My son Anthony is 16 years old and is as of a few days ago 5'10 and 265 pounds. The last time he was at the doctor was before quarantine in early 2020. At the time he was 5'8 and 180 pounds. He has always been on the pudgier side, but at least he was active in school. I tried to keep his eating under control during quarantine, but I would often find snack wrappers in the trash bin from the night prior when I woke up the next morning. This school year he went in for most of the year, with the additional privilege of being able to drive in. I believe that he and his friends would go to the mall nearly every day and hang out before coming home, and everyone would eat at the mall. I knew that he was getting bigger and I did comment on it briefly throughout the year to him, but I didn't know that it was 75 pounds in a year and quarter. He's been a bit lazier over the course of the year and I can tell that he doesn't have as much stamina as he did when he was smaller. I don't really know how to address this situation with him. He seemed unfazed by the scale saying 265 and has not made any inclination of changing his habits. I've taken a closer look into his eating habits and he is eating some kind of fast food or takeout nearly every day, or going to a 7/11 and getting snacks. I have hinted at him to slow down with all of this excess outside eating, but he appears to not really care. I don't want to make him feel bad because he is generally happy with himself, but it's a large weight gain that should be addressed. (view less)

My twin sons Cole and Austin have been putting on a lot of weight lately. About 2 years ago, Cole was a skinny kid at 5'1", 100 lbs, and so was Austin, at 4'11" and 95 lbs. Over the past two years, they have both become obese. Around March of 2020, just before everything shut down, Cole was 5'3", 150 lbs, and Austin was 5'0", and 140 lbs. The shutdown amplified their weight gain, and now, Cole is 5'4", 195 pounds, and Austin is 5'2", 190 pounds. They both seem quite happy with their weight, and more than once I have seen them playing with it. I suspect they have a competition between them for who can get the fattest. I have told them (gently) that they need to stop eating so much, but they don't listen even when I explain the health risks. The doctor says that they are both healthy despite the obesity, although they are both at high risk to develop obesity related health problems. They don't really care even when the doctor tells them to be heathier. Any advice?

Please help me. I’m at a loss, with all three of kids weight gain. I have three beautiful children Boston who is 14, Tanner who is 10 and Kayla who is 8, the problem is they have all gained quite a bit of weight over the past year. Both my husbands parents also passed away and due to them living overseas we couldn’t travel to the funeral to say goodbye. Both my husbands parents also passed away and due to them living overseas we couldn’t travel to the funeral to say goodbye. Last year was tough and admittedly I slacked up a bit on monitoring junk food and screen time. My kids screen time increased incredibly partially due to online school and to communicate with their friends which they had left behind. To be honest we were all stressed and definitely not doing as much physical activity as usual and definitely eating more junk food but I rationalised it that we all put on a bit of quarantine pudge (my husband and I each put on 15 pounds). However, I just got my kids on the scales and I am shooked at how much weight they have all gained. Kayla has put on 20 pounds weighing 65 pounds at 4,2. Tanner has out on 30 pounds weight 98 pounds at 4,7. My eldest Boston has put on 55 pounds weighing 155 pounds at 5,4. I feel like I have failed as a mother as I said I knew they were gaining some weight but I didn’t realise the full extent until I walked in on my eldest struggling to do up his pants. They went from skinny and athletic to quite chubby little kids with my two boys having big bellies, love handles and man boobs. I have tried to encourage them to get outside and play some basketball or encourage my daughter to do some dancing as she loves dancing but they’re so engrossed in these devices they don’t seem to care. I’m most concerned about my eldest his whole personality has changed from an active happy boy to a grouchy couch potato who as of yesterday struggles to ride his bike around the block without getting out for breath, I know he is frustrated that he now struggles to bend down and tie his shoe when this time last year he was running around with his buddies. My middle son even told me yesterday he doesn’t want to try out for soccer anymore as he would rather game with his old friends and play fort nite and my daughter is too young to really understand but she was sad that she no longer fit her frozen pyjamas. I don’t want my kids to view eating and weight in a negative way but I also want them to understand the importance of eating healthy. I am relatively healthy and enjoy going to the gym and my husband is the same. I’m at a loss and I feel as if I have failed as a mother. Any advice would be really appreciated (view less)

My daughter has put on, I would say, over 75 pounds in the pandemic, being away at school. I almost didn't recognize her. I didn't say anything but, oh, my God...she was a size 8 and is now an 18, at least. She has a boyfriend and seems happy, as happy as anyone can be in these times, but I don't know if I should or shouldn't say anything. Her stomach looks like a truck driver's, an overhanging "gut" and her behind is enormous.

Just found this site and it looks like people still come here occasionally. I have a rather large problem, my son. See, he used to be rather thin and athletic like me (im a single father by the way) and then the quarantine hit. Within the year hes gained God knows how much weight. He's huge now. He layer around all year, doing his classes online and then playing video games and eating junk. He has money and access to a car so he drives to fast food places almost everyday, I cam hear him leaving even when he thinks he's sneaking out. My poor boy has ballooned. He used to be slim, clothes hung off him. Now he's had to go through multiple sizes and even his biggest ones are tight. He lazes around the house without a shirt, letting his now huge belly and boyboobs hang out on display, wears nothing but sweatpants. He used to be so skinny, now he's a tubby slob. I try to get him to go on a run... (view more)Just found this site and it looks like people still come here occasionally. I have a rather large problem, my son. I try to get him to go on a run with me almost everyday. When he doesn't completely shut me down and comes with, he's puffed and sweaty in 10 minutes. He used to be able to keep up with his old man and now he struggles up stairs, I can hear him huffing and puffing after going up an incline. Im worried about what this may do to his health. Even his face is chubby, big chubby cheeks and an extra chin. His rear end is larger and hanging out of his clothes that don't fit. The blow up is just so drastic. I've discussed losing a few lbs with him but he shuts me out each time or makes up excuses. He's a beautiful boy and he ways will be no matter the size of him but I worry for his health. I've taken to pinching some of those extra lbs when he comes into the kitchen looking for something so I can maybe discourage him or remind him of the sack of fat having off him but he just continues grazing like a cow. I just don't know what to do and would like some help. We don't own a scale and he only gets weighed at the doctors. Maybe I should buy one and get him on it? See where he's and what all needs to be done. Any help is greatly appreciated. I don't mean to sound rude or embarrassed of him, I love him, but I don't want a tubby teenager. I don't want to see him waddle across the stage at graduation (view less)

My buys turned 11 last Sunday and they had their annual checkups yesterday. I had called the doctor and told him about my concern about their weight so he ordered blood tests. Yesterday we went in. The boys are 58” tall. Jamile weighs 172 and Jamile weighs 193, At Christmas they were both fat but now Jamar is so much bigger. They don’t look like twins any more. The doctor examined both boys and talked to each. Jamile says he wants to be a fireman and Jamar a football player. The doctor told them they need to be in good shape for those jobs and to get plenty of exercise and eat healthy. That’s all he told them about their weights. Then he told them to leave the room. He told us the boys lab work was normal but they’re much too fat. He recommended referral to a dietician. Much to my surprise he weighs 310 now and the doctor told him he’s let himself get way too fat and the whole family is eating way too much. He told us he wants to see the boys in 6 months and that he doesn’t want to see any weight gain. After we left it was like the doctor hadn’t said anything. After the boys went to sleep my husband and I had a big argument. He knows what’s best for the boys and himself and the doctor and I worry too much. As long as he takes his meds he’s OK and Jamar and Jamile are just going through a phase. Help! (view less)

After not having classes since last March, my son Lane's 7th grade starts in person learning tomorrow. He's very enthusiastic but I'm worried. Yesterday we went shopping for school clothes. He's been wearing sweatpants and tee shirts for a year. None of his school clothes from last year fit. We ended up getting him size 54 jeans and men's size 4X polo shirts. I was surprised. He and my nephew Mario have been spending all their free time lifting weights to get ready to play football. I know they gotten bigger,, but I had no idea how big. When we got home, I weighed Lane. He's 307 lbs at 5'2". Mario weighed himself too. He's 16, 5'9" and 360. Lane is so big compared to a year ago. I'm praying that school goes OK for him.

My son who is 13, weighs 236 pounds and is 5'6. He will not stop eating or gaining weight. He now does not go outside, run, and is to lazy just to walk to the bathroom. He will hold it until it hurts. When I'm gone, I realized he sneaks food. One time, half of a contain of ice cream was missing when I got home. Does anyone know what I can do? thanks

I went to Saima's house again, recently and we went off to the park. We went on the seesaw her side was for too heavy we couldn't get it off the ground! At one point we had 7 people all trying to lift her side, but her side wouldn't go up.

Hi everyone, I’m Drew. My son is 17, 6 feet tall and about 265 pounds. He’s always been a huge kid, very large and wide frame for someone of height, a thick and stocky build. I never paid much mind to it because he was always a larger kid and his weight never seemed to impact him. He’s relatively active, likes to go on hikes and is working with the emergency medical department. While it was obvious that he was quite heavy, I never would have suspected that he was this heavy. Does anyone know how to address this issue, when his weight doesn’t really impact him negatively? It can’t be good for his health.

Update: While it looked like it was on the bright side, jack has managed to gain another 14 pounds since last month and now weighs 112 pounds and is still 4'6. He looks huge and wears 14 h jeans (the average for his height is 10 reg.) and he needed a soccer uniform 3 sizes larger than last year's for a comforatble fit. While he did not gain as much as he did 2 months ago, I am still worried about how round he is getting. The other day, as I mentioned in a reply to my older post, when he came walking downstairs without a shirt on, you could see how large he'd gotten. He was bigger than me and my husband. I was shocked, but he seems happier than when he was skinny, as I mentioned before. He told me that he feels much more comfortable. He's back to online school, which also scares me, and he lays in bed all day except for his game days. I want to help him, but my husband and I have tight schedules, and do not live close enough to have relatives bring him, and are not comfortable hiring someone. What can I do for him. I don't want to see him become obese or get diabetes.
