...just a couple comments on the "healthy choices", I know your intentions are good ones but...peanut butter vs, caramel..as p.b is heart healthy and will lower cholesterol, fruit snacks(maybe you meant fruit as a snack?, but fruit snacks have 120 calories per serving and one piece of fruit has 50, and fiber to fill you and fruit snacks are one of the number one dental decayers. Another thing is always, always read your labels if it has hydrogenated oils in it..put it back..very bad for the heart. I would not recommend splenda for children it is made with chlorine which a lot of people are unaware of. It also has not been tested on children...adam and eve make a flavored water that is only diluted down juice, which really can be made at home. Stick to foods that are grown in the ground, not chemically produced...they may cut calories but will not improve health.

Heres a list of some healthy snack alternatives that children might enjoy. 1.Baskin Robbins frozen yogurt compared to other ice cream places such as coldstone, oberweis, etc. 2.Baked lays snack chips 3.sliced apples with caramel dip 4.corn puffs 5.healthy choice tv dinners 6.granola bars and fruit snacks 7.natural flavored water Also healthy alternatives that one would use in every day cooking would be splenda which contains half the calories of regular sugar, miracle whip which has 75 percent less fat then mayonaise, chicken instead of beef, and having three servings of dairy a day helps burn fat faster. Hope this helps.

Everyone is getting what I had to say to that little girl, wrong. I am happy that she has an opinion, not many children do. I just think that my little girl needs to get advise from children who know how she feels. Not from someone who has been thin all her/his life and think that what they have to say is going boost her self esteem. There are kids on this site who have been overweight and lost weight and my daughter has read what they had to say and she feels because they can do it so can she. I just feel that if has actually gone through what she is going through that makes a difference for all these children. And by the way,Morgan, I do know what my child is going throw. I was an overweight child myself. I know not to push the weight issue on her. Her and I are very close because I went through the same thing that she is going through now. Again, I apologize if anyone on this website felt I was wrong to let that little girl know how I feel about her giving advice. Forgive Me.

Ok, I know im only 14 years old but i have some things to say. The growing weight of our children isn't the kids fault. Its the parents. Its not us kids that do the grocery shopping. I mean sure, most kids should control what they eat, but parents need to lead by example. There are soo many delicious healthy meals you can make, an awesome healthy substitutes! your whole family will feel sooo much better! and take family walks after dinner. Summer is an excellent time to get some excersice. take advantage of all the fruits in season, and use the beautiful whether to spend time outsdie. i can guarantee everyone in your family will look and feel healthier, plus youll grow closer as a family. hope i helped and good luck! great job knowing we need to be healthier!

I wrote a while back about the problems I was having with my (450lb) daughter. I tried getting her to exercise carrying the weight around was too much for her. She'd go a few feet, but after heaving her bulk that far, she'd be panting, sweating, crying for me to let her stop. After a few days she just gave up, and she's put on more and more weight. I'm sure she's pushing around 500ish now. She's only 5'1. She doesn't bother to move very often now (only from the sofa to the bathroom) I have to have her brothers help her stand. She can't get up under her own power anymore. I'm so worried, because it's my poor daughter under that mound of blubber. She looks lost in it. I've asked the doctor to do a house call, but he said he can't do that. And she can't phsyically walk as far as the car anymore. Seriously, when her brothers help her up, she's panting from lifting the weight. And the walk into the bathroom just about kills her. I think she's going to die, and no one will help me.

My daughter spent 6 months in Spain with a host family and came back almost 50 pounds heavier. I cannot believe the change---her stomach has two rolls, she has back fat and her rear is enormous. I had a talk with her and she says in Spain, boys like women with a little meat, and she doesn't plan to lose the weight. I had bought her a new dress, size 10 but she is now at least an 18.

Hi I am morbidly obese man myself (over 400). I have an 8 yo son that lives with me part time. My concern is that he is getting real chubby weighing 150 pounds or more being 4'6 tall. He has until a couple of months ago been able to run around with kids his age, but now he is to heavy for that, having gained 20 pounds so far this year. I am really worried that he will develop my eating and weight problems. He eats good meals usually but snacks alot, often going from one friends home to another being offered snacks. Unfortunately I am too fat to play or go out with him so he spends a lot of time with other families, so I dont know what he eats during the day. In the evening we eat together and he always wants 2 or 3 servings and as I eat a lot its hard for me to say no. We used to snack together a lot, but I have started hiding the snacks until he is asleep. Any ideas what I can do more, I know I should change my own eating habits, but thats so hard. Anyone in the same situation, or someone having any ideas what I could do?

Hi, my daughter is 15, 5'6, and 275! She eats NON-STOP!!! Yesterday, I took her to the running track and she went around half way and had to stop! She was determined to go a mile though, but it took her 45 minutes. We went to the pool last week and she insisted on wearing a bikini..........and.........her stomach hung OVER HER WAIST!!!!!!! And what's more, she ate the whole time. I went in her room and there were candy rappers everywhere (chocolate mostly). She just doesnt seem to care though. Whenever I say something to her she just cries, and if I tell her not to eat something, she has a fit! The doctor told her very nicely she needed to lose weight, and she had a fit on her too. That was 2 months ago, since then she's put on 10 pounds!!! Me and my husband are very fit. We both work full-time so she walks places and buys food I think. She is an only child so she is used to just getting everything she wants.......and i guess that includes food. She NEEDS HELP!!!!!!!

hello everyone. i just wanted to give you parents some advice from a kids point of veiw. im 14 and beginning to healthfully lose some weight. one of the best things you can do for you kids is get the junk food out of the house. believe me, it will help, and if its not there you cant get at it. im sure your kids will find something healthy they can learn to love (personally, i would much rather have a peice of fruit anyway)..and if they ask for something, dont give it to them!!! its your responsibility!! and start making healthy dinners, there are some great low fat cook books out there, and some healthy dishes are great for kids!! also, youve probably heard of 100 calories packs...delicious!! there baked snacks in orea, chips ahoy, ritz snack mix, and tons more, and there only 100 calories and sooo good!! also, popcorn is a great snack..for excerise, start taking family walks after dinner. it will really make a difference and youll even get to spend time as a family. hope i helped!

Hello, my daughter is 12 years old. In one week she gained 5 pounds. She noticed that her belly was getting big so she told me and I said it is perfectly normal during puberty. After our conversation i noticed a big decrease in her appetite and i asked her why she was not eating. She said because i'm fat mom! So we had a little fight about her weight. I said just watch what you eat and no junk food. The problem is that she is not commited enough to be on a diet. She does not want to work out because she has big muscles and she does not want to get bigger muscles. I dont know what else to suggest. She is very upset and does not want to hang out with her friends and we have constant fights about her going to school. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi ive posted on here about my 13 year old son a couple of months agao and have tried many ways to try to get him to loose weight but he just dosn't seem to care about being overweight. When i last posted he was 5'1 and weighed 155lbs but in the last 2 months he has gaind over 25lbs and now weighs 184lbs. I tell him he needs to loose weight and try to get him to excersices and eat more healthy but he just says he dosn't care that he is fat and just keeps gaining weight. I don't want him to be unhealthy. The other day I saw him with his shirt off and his stomach has gone from big to enourmous. I just don't like seeing him overweight. Hes just got fat alover huge thiges, blubbery arms and legs and on his face. He is only 5'1. Please if anyone has any way i could help him or if you or your kids have any advice for him or me please respond. Thanks
