hey my daughter really needs help. i dont like going into her personal buisiness but she is gaining way too much weight.she is 178 pounds, and its all in the belly and thighs.my wife and i are both normal weight, so i don't know why this is happening to her. we go indoor swimming alot, so whenever we go swimming and she wears a one peice, her belly really shows. also, at the doctor, the doctor measured how far out her stomach was, and it was a foot long from her back to the end of her stomach. and that's when she was sitting down. should i post a picture? do you think it is bad?

HI, I am not a parent of an overweight child but I would like your advice! I am a trainee clinical Psychologist in the UK and I am about to do some research into childhood obesity; parents persepective. I am taking a non-blaming, sensitive approach to this research. It is not about value judgements but rather a want to understand and represent the views of parents of an overweight child; whether they see it as a problem or not. I understand this is a sensitive topic for some and wonder how I can best engage parents to take part in this research. What do you think? I would greatly appreciate any input, positive or negative. I have been concerned that my daughter is overweight at 140lbs. When I looked at some of the children on this website I see that she is not as seriously overweight as some of the ones here. When walking up a hill she does however get out of breath before I do. The amount that she is overweight is steadily climbing and she I think is headed for a serious weight problem. She doesn't seem to want healthy foods, and likes a diet of pizza. Her mother and I are both diabetics and she is at risk of going that way. The key here is I want her to change her diet willingly. I have been eating healthy foods myself and trying to set an example. She doesn't seem to like salads. She seems to understand but has a hard time putting it into practice.

If your child is overweight dont force them into losing weight. my mom never really said anything to make me lose weight; i just happened to go on the scale at school when we were getting weighed for gym class and i was so embarassed that i weighed 170 lb. and i had gained 4lbs by next time i weighed myself and decided i needed to do something if i didnt want to end up like my dad. He died of a heart attack at the age of 46. My mom has supported me a little, she buys me the food i want, but at the same time she makes it harder by still buying junk food for the rest of the family and herself. She is also trying to lose weight, but having no success, but i know that's because she's not eating nearly enough carbs. If you're worried about not burning carbs, eat them in the morning, and lighter foods at night. then you'll actually use them for the energy. I come from a family of overweight... I come from a family of overweight people, all my aunts except 1 is overweight, but she recently lost weight too. and my mom, stepdad, stepsister, and sister are overweight. my grandparents are all overweight also. so its not impossible i used to be 5'1" 174.4 lbs. and now i'm 5'1" and 122.8lbs. i now weigh 10lbs. less than i did when i was 11 and i'm 7 inches taller. it took me about 7 months for those 51.6 lbs. to come off, but i im not done yet and i want to lose about 18 more lbs. if you really want your kids to lose weight take them to the doctor and have them talk to your child, trust me that was my breaking point. Hi. My daughter was a normal-weight child until last year. Despite watching portion control and pushing fruits and veggies, and making sure she's moving and active, she's continued to gain weight -- 12-16 lbs in the past 12 months. Her BMI is 93%. The extra weight is beginning to wound her. Yesterday I found her in tears, "Mommy, why is my tummy growing so big." We went to the Dr. last Christmas and were not taken seriously..."she'll grow into her new weight soon." We went back in a few weeks ago and they, too, are beginning to get concerned. A urine test and blood work did not show any sugar or ketons and her thyroid levels were fine. Our family history does not include any obesity except for one aunt...a great-aunt for her who wrestled with being overweight from toddlerhood. Help! Any suggestions or recommendations medically? Can anyone suggest a good book on body image for a young child? Thanks!

I am so shocked. My daughter told me yesterday that her gym teachers had to have a talk with her about her weight and exercising and eating right. I mean she isn't that heavy. She's about 5'3 and 160 pounds. she overweight, yes i know that. So they told her that they were going to take a few tests and meet with her everyday after school to improve her health. I enjoy this opportunity but doesn't that seem a little rude? So the girl gym teacher asked her to wear something tight after school with like spandex shorts along with it and they were going to do situps and running everyday and pushups. Do any of you feel a little weird about this?

i really need help with my daughter samantha.Everything i bought her a few months ago is now too tight, or won't fit at all. she will not get up off the couch, and everytime i close it and go out of the room, she just puts it on again. and also, on her walk home from school, she buys bags of candy with her allowance. month by month, i see her expanding, and each time we go to the pool each year, her belly is twice the size it was the other year. also, she told her sister that people say things about her behind her back and stare at her. all of her friends are overweight too, and she keeps nudging me to wear a two peice to the pool. I don't want her to get embarrassed, because often she sees the kids from school at the pool.I guess she dosen't want to feel overweight, and wants to fit in with everybody else. what should i do? should i let her wear the two peice? also, i need help with her weight issue.

hi parents. now, first of all i'm only a teen and i have no kids. i read this board and got upset. now, i'm not trying to be mean by any means at all. for some kids it's just a phase. some kids get chunky, but then loose it all as they grow. you should let your kids be kids. don't knock food out of their hands and force them to chomp on celery. plus, are you sure that your kids aren't depressed?? because my dad was terrible growing up. the first time he called me a fat@ss was when i was 9. i wasn't a big kid. because of all the harrassment, and runs he would force us to run. i got really depressed. so please don't EVER make fun of your kids for their size. don't jump on their backs about their weight. remember, they're kids. you're only a kid once. i never had much of a childhood. don't make these mistakes. PLEASE
