Thank you Sue.
I did try your sugjestions, but I didn't make it over the first hurdle.
First I talked to Tom about it. He says he knows he's overweight but I got the typical, "whatever". Strike One.
Next I talked to William Jr. He said he doesn't care if he weighs more than me. He should be counted as what is on the inside, not the outside, and if I don't like what he looks like, well tough. Strike Two
Finally, I talked to Mark. He said that he is not intrested in girls, but food. He likes him self and he isn't worried. And you know what really ticked me off, right after I talked about diet and exercise, he just got up, walked to the fridge and gulfed down a pint of ice cream.
I am really slamming down the keys, because I am furious, I dont want to be too hard on them, but what should I do? P.S. I am not overweight.

I am writing for my daughter Maegan. She is 6 yrs old and is 4'1" and weighs 77 lbs. I always thought she was just a "big" girl, but now I realize that she is overweight. About 1 1/2 wks ago, I started limiting her food portions and bought all healthly low fat foods. We also started exersizing everydday for at least 30 minutes. She is trying so hard but she hasnt lost an ounce and it is discouraging her! She get on the scale and it still say 77, and she cries! what should I do!

Hello everyone. I have 3 sons, Tom, William Jr. and Mark. They are all overwieght. Tom my oldest, is 15 ans is 6'3". He weighs 223 lbs. and just gains and gains and gains. He will sit on the couch all day eating, his favorite cookies, chips and cake. The Three C's I call them. He has only 3 rolls, but they have to be 3 inches tall. His stomach is very large and he wears bigger pans than me. I can look at him from the side and see how much his stomach hangs over his pants. He wieghed 165 lbs when he was 11! I hope he loses wieght soon.
My middle son, William Jr., is the most overweight of the three. He is 5'3" and he weighs 197 lbs! He is 13 and his BMI is 30.7! I catch him at night in the fridge looking for food. He never does anything! He goes to school (with three sandwitches, 4 soda's, 9 huge chocolate chip cookies. Not to mention the pizza and fries he buys in school. I can... (view more)

One of my sons, Tim, is 14, 5'0", 216lbs. He began to grow like this just a year or so ago. He began to gain weight very quickly, and he is still going. I hadn't noticed is bulging belly until just recently, because in our demograpic, he looks normal! His older brother is always taking him out for McDonalds without us knowing it, and he somehow manages to go through a week eating nothing but M&Ms, hamburgers and donuts, which I have thouroughly protested against, but his brother and mother are helping him. They don't seem to notice... I barely ever see them, so I don't have any way of letting them know, but Tim is always eating. His waist is reaching 53 inches, far above mine, and at his current rate of about 3 to 4 pounds a week, and 1 to 2 a day on weekends and holidays, his waist will go above his height! I am greatly concerned. I can't seem to do anything about Tim, since he says he ... (view more)

help! my daughter is almost 7 - 4'2" and around 80-85 lbs. she is pretty active which is good because i'm afraid she would be heavier still if she wasn't active. my problems are 1) how to help her lose weight and 2) how to help her be happy - she claims she can't run fast because she's "too fat", she wants to wear cute, trendy clothes...i can't find any "plus" size CUTE clothing for her. any help, advice, anything would be appreciated! i haven't been on the site before - i've just been hoping it was baby fat that she would outgrow and it's not happening thank you.

I take her to a dietitian every week, a cardiologist once a month and to the peditritian every two months. She gains almost 10 pounds a week. At our house we have a hospital scale and I weigh her every week. She goes to school but can't do gym class, and she comes home crying about bieing teased. I am 125 and 5'8 a perfectly respectiable weight for a 40 year old woman. Every day she eats lots of butter and fattening foods. Please help me help me help my daughter lose weight. im not so sure if my child is overweight. she always comes home crying because people make fun of her, but in my opinion she isn't that big at all, she's about 5'0 or 5'1, and she weighs 125. The weight calculator on this site says she is at the risk of becoming overweight. She never gains weight but she never looses it either, she is very active and doesnt over eat, she is on the track team, and loves to dance she always dances, she is very talented, she wants to be a singer and fears that she will never become famous because she is too fat, someone please give me some tips to bring up her self esteem.

I'm new to the site and would appreciate any suggestions on how to help my daughter. She was always underweight/thin for her age and height until she was between 8 and 9 years old. At first we just assumed it was puberty, but now we're not so sure. She has continued to put on weight at an unheathy rate. Her Doc just suggests the usual, portion control and additional exercise. We've tried just about everything we can think of, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Does anyone know of any health conditions, etc. that might be causing her rapid weight gain? I'm becoming very concerned for her health! Thanks!

I am 17 years old, and I weigh 375lbs. I am happy with who I am, and I think that adults should accept that sometimes people are happy however they are. I don't think it's the parent's decision that their children need to lose weight.

I just would like to start off by saying that this is one of the best sites in regard to over weight children and teens. I find it fascinating that there are people in this world that care enough to help such children. Any way, the reason that I am writing is in regard to my 14 year old son. My son, for most of his life has been a 'big boned' child. He has always have had an enormous appetite, just like his father. However, in the past year, I've noticed that his stomach seems to be getting a little bit bigger. In the beginning, it just seemed a little rounder, which I passed up for the fact that he had just hit puberty (his voice was changing and he was developing facial hair already!) so I assumed he would grow. However, after a few months, I took notice of his shirts and pants. The buttons of his shirts looked as though they were ready to pop off at any given second, and the tails weren't staying tucked in. His pants top button never stayed closed, and the zipper dose not go all the way up. His measurements are 5'5, 180 pounds. What should I do?

I need some help. I have two sons and both of them are overweight. My 14 year old is 5'7" and 180 lbs. He can't even wear my pants. Shirts are okay, but my my 33 are too small for him. He barely fits into 34 comfortably. My 9 year old is 4'7" and 125 lbs. He has an especially large gut. At least he can wear my pants. That's not a good thing, though, except for the fact that I don't have to buy him pants. I had a weight problem when I was abou 12, but when I got into junior high I played football and began to slim down. I have stayed that way ever since. Neither one of them are interested in sports. I have thought about taking them to the gym to work out, but I was told that they are too young. They don't like low fat food because it doesn't taste as good as the real kind. Any help I could get would be greatly appreciated. I don't want them to be obese as adults.

My step daughter is overweight. She is a very picky eater. When we go out, all she will eat is chicken fingers with ranch dressing. She does not eat fruit except bananas or many vegetables. She eats lots of bread and her favorite meal at home is spaghetti. She rarely gets any exercise, and I can't force her. Are bread and spaghetti fattening?

My daughter is 4'8", weighs 120 pounds. I've asked her doctor for some guidance with her diet but the only thing he says is "she eats too much". She is an extremely picky eater. Her diet consists mainly of meat and potatoes, she does'nt like rice or pasta. The only veggies she'll eat are carrots, broccoli, and green beans. Fruit is out of the question. I've tried to cut down her portion size but how much is too much, what is the proper portion size? Then the fighting starts, because she's still hungry, and I tell her she has had enough. The oddest thing about all this is that she can not sit still. She would rather be off with her friends doing everything from playing with dolls to riding her bike to playing in the pool. When she does sit down to watch tv, she bounces. Diabetes runs in my family and every time she gains another pound I get more concerned. I need guidance.

I have two children who are both overweight. I also, am overweight. My son, age 11 tips the scales at 195 lbs and my daughter, age 7, 115 lbs. I am 34 and weigh 250 pounds. I know what the main problems are. When there is no school, my kids watch TV, play video games and play on the computer all day. I know I should put a stop to it, but, it's difficult on where to start. Plus, I'm not an active mom either, so, that doesn't help.Neither of my kids complains about being overweight, nor, are they picked on at school. It is quite the contrary. Both of my children are quite popular. Just since September, my son has grown two pant sizes bigger, from a 34 to a 38. I have no idea where I am going to buy him pants when he gets older if he keeps going at this rate.I want to do something about it, but, without creating an atmosphere where "fat is bad" and have them get a complex about it. This is such a thin line...maybe I should see a nutritionist.
