i'm afraid my daughter is addicted to chocolate. after vacations last summer she started to eat lots of chocolate and has gained a lot weight. I think she weighs 200 or more. she has gotten a fat belly and doesn't go out anymore because her pals are nasty. i've tried a lot but she won't stop eating chocolate. i don't buy it! she buys it by herself, gets money from grandma. what can i do?

First let me say I am so glad I found this web site. My daughter is 86 lbs and is 43 inches tall. She is wearing a size 14 but I have to cut about a foot of material off the bottom which I dont mind but she is getting frustrated because she knows she has a big belly. She has stretch marks on her thighs and it just kills me because I know kids can be cruel and I want to get ahead of this before the teasing starts. Has anyone heard anything about the Atkins diet for kids? I know alot of people on it and have been successful losing weight. She is active she plays sports and is in dance class but cannot do a sit up to save her life. I try to give her all healthy stuff but the poor kid wants to eat a candy bar just like the other kids. Any suggestions?

Hello. I am not a parent, but I wandered to this sectoin of the site and began reading some posts. For my entire life I have been a heavy child, I weighed 155 pounds when I was 12. Well I believe it all started when I was 90 pounds and my doctor told me I needed to lost 10 pounds... from that moment on I just began gaining weight like crazy. Mostly from sneeking the food my mother told me I couldn't have. I would cry myself to sleep at nights, thinking my mom loved my brothers more because they could have desert after supper. It wasn't until I was 12 when I decided I hated being fat. I felt completely deprived and didn't want to waste another day of my life being fat. I went on Weight Watchers, following my mother's adivice, and lost 5 pounds in the first week. I am now 129 pounds and 5' 6". I've never been so happy and I can say I am actually proud of my body. I'm still looking to lose 10 more pounds. Unlike when I was younger, I actually exercise because I want to, not because I have to. My advice is to stand behind your kids, celebrate every little step, and never give up on them. I know my parents never did and I love them so much for it. They stood beside me through all of this and I can see it in their eyes how proud they are when we go shopping and I can look in the regular sizes. Believe in your kid, they will lose when they are ready, just give them a little push. (view less)

hi, i'm not a mother but an older sister. i'm worried because my little sister is getting fatter every day. she is 14, only 5'2 and weighs more than 250. so she told me. our parents are fat, too, and when we eat we only eat burgers and fries and icecream. i'm trying to eat healthy so i'm not that fat. but my sister just eats what's on the table and it isn't healthy. what can i do? i think she will get fatter and fatter if she doesn't stop to eat like that. our mum weighs more than 400 and doesn't care about her body and our dad is more than 350. when he's at home he's just eating and eating. mum is cooking all day. there's food everywhere you want. my sister goes to the fridge and takes what she wants. what can i do? i feel o helpless.

My son is very self-conscious about his weight. he is 48" and 109 lbs. He refuses to go to any swimming activities unless he can keep his shirt on. And he says he's "fat." I feel so bad about how he feels. He loves all food and I try to help him make healthy choices and to eat slower but he does end up sneaking food. Plus he is very inactive. He is not interested in sports, he's a bookworm and computer fan. He has made a New Year's resolution to lose 10 lbs. and actually began an exercise program that I do called Power 90. He is very excited but I can't help but worry about his self-esteem. I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts and would like to get in touch with others for support. Thanks.
