Since none of us meet in chat, I thought I should start getting better about using the board to communicate. After a lot of hard work, Amanda's weight is down to 280 lbs. That's still very overweight for a 10 yr old girl, but 20 pounds off is a start. It is really hard work to get her not to overeat too much but she is trying. I can definitely see a difference in her ability to walk. At her weight it was very difficult, but not impossible. I still catch her binge eating at times, but she really wants me to help so I try to help all I can.

I need some help from you other parents out there. You see my daughter has a good self image. She has never felt uncomfortable with her weight, though the doctor told me at her last vist that she is about 25-30 pounds overweight. See, she's 14 and she weighs about 172 pounds. Sure, she has some fat on her stomach, but she has never had any probablems with it and i'm not going to ruin it with a diet. But now i have learned from my daughter that when they start track in 2 weeks the gym teacher will weigh all of the kids in her class, boys and girls, and say what they weigh out loud. I find this totally out of line and have spoken to the teacher but she said she has done it this way for 10 years and isn't going to change. My daughter doesn't want to do it because she knows that she's overweight and doesn't want to be laughed at. What can i do? Is there anything?

I need some help. I'm not too sure if my daughter is overweight or not. She is 13 years old, almost 14. She is about 5 foot 6 I believe and the last time I saw how much she weighed, which was about a month ago, she weighed about 175 pounds. She doesn't look all the big, but she is a big big and her stomach is a bit big. She has never been made fun of though. I know though that it isn't all muscle probably. But would she be considered overweight? I don't really have a good reson to bring her to a doctor about it because she has never been concerned about her weight and I'm not sure if I should be or not. 175 pounds just seems a little bit heavy for being 13 years old. Could someone here help me out? Thank you

I'ts 3a.m. and I am in tears writting this. After reading 5 pages of posts from other parents I feel horrible: guilt and embarrasment... a bad mom. My son Adrien is 11, he's 5'2 and 180lbs. I could sit and make excuses, blame the blame, but it all comes down to my fault. It's my fault he's overweight. It's my fault he eat's the wrong foods. It's my fault he gets teased at school. It's not like I feed him twinkies 6 times a day, I have trouble saying no. That kid could talk me out of anything, he's very good at it. He likes to bargin with me, I need a class on how to say "NO". NO-NO-NO... what a slap in the face to realize it's my fault he's miserable. Family and friends keep saying "he will out-grow it", "he'll get taller", "He's just a kid", "it's just babyfat", shame on me. And the doctors, telling me what to do, what not to do. Sitting there in judgement of me and my son. Are their children overweight? Do they live with a child that can convince you that they are starving, when you know they are not; Finding food wrappers tucked into great hiding places? I doubt it.

I have an 11 year old boy. He now weighs 133lbs. He gained 10lbs over summer break. The big problem right now is that he has two older brothers (14 & 16) who eat tons of junk food and are both thin boys because they are very active. My 11 year old is very inactive because of some motor skill problems, and he is diagnosed as having aspergers syndrome, which is like a really mild form of autism. Anyway, he doesn't have any freinds to go out and play with, so he stays in alot and plays gameboy and watches TV. How can I deny the older, thinner boys, goodies, when they don't have a weight problem? Yet if I buy them stuff, the 11 year old will eat it too. How can I get the 11 year old active when he won't participate in team sports, and has no freinds to play with? Man we need some help here...

Our daughter is 10, moderately active and moderately overweight but on a worsening trend. She is happy to participate in physical activities, such as cycling, provided they are fun, but ask her to run or walk around the block or swim up and down the pool ...! Currently we have banned ice-cream, soft-drink, cheese, full-cream milk (skim only) and dinner sweets from the house. (Click here to see rest of message)

My daughter is turning 10 in a few weeks and she's a little too fat. My wife and I are big as well, but for a 9-year old to weigh around 275 pounds isn't right.

I haven't been around because I went on another buisness trip to Los Angeles for the past 2 1/2 weeks. My husband, Ben came with me so we left Jessica with his brother and his wife. They had 2 kids so we figured the would easily handle our 2 also. I thought that the fact that his brother was obese and so was his wife would have nothing to do with her weight but I was wrong. She now weighs 304, she gained 33 pounds in 2 weeks. We instructed them to feed her what was on her diet but she said every day they ate lunch at Burger King. How can I help her loose all of the weight because she has diabetes, high blood pressure and athsma. I would apreciate som halp thanks. Sincerley, Lindsay M.

Hi. My daughter just turned nine in June, and i honestly don't know her exact weight, but she is a short child and is large for her age. My mother took her school shopping yesterday, and found that she wears a girls size 14, and can even wear a women's size 4/6. This is not normal for a nine year old child. She also doesn't want to participate in a lot of physical activity, no matter how much my husband and I encourage her to. I really want to help her before it becomes an even bigger issue than it already is. She is oging into the fourth grade, and kids can really be cruel. I need to know how to handle this delicately. What should I do?

I have a strange request. My daughter is 7 years old and is kind of chunky. The family doctor says in order to maintain or lose weight, she needs to lose weight in her bottom. So what I'm asking all of you is what foods (in general) go directly to her butt, and what diets would help her maintain her weight.

I'm 12 years old, 5'3 and I weigh 191 (I'm telling the truth) The reason why I'm here is because I have a question that I don't think other kids my age could answer. They have this 'Natrual Herbal Slimming Tea' and my mom got me 2 boxes of it but I don't really know what the ingredients are. If you could tell me what: senna leaves, malva leaves, licorice root and panax ginseng root are I'd appreciate it a lot!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
